A Steam friend gifted me a copy of Vampire Survivors.
A Steam friend gifted me a copy of Balatro.

Are they actually my friends or are they merely friendly neighbourhood dope dealers?

I was gifted this game and it felt like a drug dealer telling me "the first taste is free".

One of the most important and influential team-based first person shooters of all time. Sadly it was used as a testbed for other games by its developers and is now languishing in a nearly-abandoned state.

Imagine John Carpenter's The Thing but you play as the Thing and without the whole pretending to be something else part. There are some simple puzzles but for the most part it's actually quite a relaxing game about being a blob of tendrils and making your way through a bunch of tunnels, hitting a lever or snacking on a person here and there.

The rightful successor to Harvest Moon.

A high quality farming (and more!) game which, despite the small budget and 1-man developer team, continues to get meaningful updates and additions. Just look at what's in store for version 1.6!

Recommended without any reservations.

In short, King of Fighters XIV is a solid game.

+ Large cast with a good mix of old and new characters.
+ Good mix of mechanics from previous games and some new ideas.
+ Pretty decent character balance. (Based on tournament results.)
+ Solid "netcode".
+ Easier execution than KoFXIII.

- Very poor at explaining itself to newcomers. The training mode is decent but the trial mode is very poor and barely teaches you anything useful.
- Single player content in general is limited.
- It's not a looker, even after the improvements SNK made to the visuals.
- Some technical annoyances such as limited default arcade stick support, requiring users to create their own mapping.

All in all I am quite pleased with how this one turned out, and SNK is still supporting it as well with 2 character packs so far. (Unfortunately you cannot buy the characters separately like you can on PS4.)

My main gripe is how bad it is at teaching the player how to get good at the game. In a world where Skullgirls, UNIST and Guilty Gear have made great strides to help newcomers get good at the game it's very much lagging behind.
I recommend getting in touch with the online (Discord) communities to learn the ropes.
I also wish it had a better story mode but I understand I might be in the minority when it comes to caring about that stuff.

After replaying the entire trilogy a few times I am more convinced than ever that Mass Effect 1 is the best game of the series.

Is it the most polished game of the series? No, that's ME2.
Does it have the smoothest combat of the series? No, that's ME3.
Does it have the best-written character/character arc of the series? No, that's Mordin Solus.

But what it does have is the most cohesive design and story, an interesting universe, a great soundtrack and by far the least amount of fan pandering.

It also runs quite well on PC. It does not have a wide array of in-game options or settings but if you are willing to edit some of the .ini files you will be able to really make the game shine.
