In terms of gameplay mechanics and atmosphere, it's great. In terms of "does this game have staying power?" I think it's abysmal... at least in its current state.

Gameplay is basically Lethal Company or Content Warning, but you go into an apocalyptic warzone to take photos and earn points via a Dead Rising photo system. But in terms of the game being either scary or funny like its contemporaries, or even feeling nearly as replayable as them, it falls short. It often feels pretty shallow to me.

Hopefully the new updates the devs said they wanna do can resolve the shallow feeling or maybe I can find something that changes my mind on all this, but even at the current asking price I still can't recommend right now. People often call various indie games "flavor of the month games" and Headliners feels like it has the staying power of one while others feel like they could go on for years and grant memories that would last longer.

Early Access Review
Protogens might be the only playable characters, but gameplay-wise it's like a cross between Quake, Call of Duty, Halo, and Titanfall all at once. Like someone actually took all their favorite multiplayer FPS games and threw em in a blender while understanding a decent chunk of what made each one tick while also trying to do a bit of a new spin on all of it. I didn't play much, but what I did play impressed me

There is a singleplayer mission with more on the way, a level editor with workshop planned to be added to it later, and of course the bulk of the content being directed at PVP.

Biggest complaint I have thus far is the lack of bots as an option, which granted I'm certain the singleplayer missions and likely level editor were intended to fill the void of... especially with things like the advanced movement and whatnot likely making it harder to implement proper bots... idk. If it can happen, I want em because it always sucks to be locked out of a mode because either servers are down or nobody's playing, especially when said mode currently seems to have more content than what's currently available in singleplayer.

It's a chill and relaxing fishing game with simple yet fun gameplay, decent progression, and social features and the sensation of a community where you can just hang out and make friends... a community the likes of which most modern games refuse to allow to really grow or exist.

I'm someone who had a bad first impression taint his view of DC's heroes when he was younger, has yet to finish this game, and I'm already writing a positive review of it. That should tell you how good this is and how much it impressed me.

Edit: I have just finished the game. My opinion has not changed.

I'm not a Battletoads fan. Never played any of the games. Got a key for this on Humble Bundle and decided to try it. Within 60 seconds of starting the story, I could tell why the fans hate it.

Some will probably say the fans just hate on this game because the female villain isn't wearing a sexy outfit anymore, but trust me when I tell you that in the 1 hour I played writing this review, they haven't even introduced that woman yet and they've already done A LOT to disrespect this series and its fans. It does the "heroes are has-beens/nobodies that don't matter" thing. Now I don't know if there's ever been a good way to do a sequel/reboot with a story like that, but if there is, this is the furthest thing from it. On top of that, the artstyle is like a super watered-down children's cartoon type of animation and the rest of the game is equally as sanitized. The artstyle doesn't look as bad when you're actually in combat in my opinion, but that doesn't mean it isn't terrible.

Literally the only thing here that is even remotely redeemable is the gameplay. I don't know if it gets worse beyond the point I'm at or not, but so far it's the only thing that's even sortof consistently enjoyable about this game. Ordinarily that would be enough for me to give this game a thumbs-up but honestly... I can feel the pain of the Battletoads fans as I play this...

Edit: I played for another 20 minutes and couldn't take it anymore.

Early Access Review
Pros:
-Genuinely good gameplay
-MMO-inspired game that isn't restricted to online-only
-Retro artstyle circa late 1990s to Early 2000s
-Good soundtrack
-Some cool references
-<Insert funny compliment about character customization here>

Cons:
-Difficulty seems to spike a little too much at times, especially in Singleplayer (I've arguably ran into this issue 2-3 times in the entire game so far)
-Sometimes grinding (or cheesing) to get around difficulty spikes can be too monotonous or otherwise annoying (some of the grinds are fun, but I still wouldn't wanna do those for too long)
-Game at the time of this review is short

Dungeons of Sundaria is a game that, I have been told, mimics the feel of World of Warcraft raids while not actually being an MMO. It has the vibes of an MMO, but it can be played both online and offline.

There isn't much to say about it. The game overall is pretty janky and simple. It feels unfinished, but not to a degree that's unplayable or always unfun. Some enemies and bosses are annoying because of this, but there's usually some way around that if you pay attention. The levels you can play through are also pretty long, and by the I mean the first level took me about 2.5 hours. Thankfully, if you for any reason you can't finish a dungeon in 1 sitting, your progress in within it saves so you can quit at any point in the middle as long as you actually trigger a checkpoint.

(If you're wondering if this checkpoint comment is meant to imply they can bug out and not work, I've never had that happen, I'm just bad at figuring out when one triggers so I can plan when to quit out and take a break. The game always tells you when you hit one via the in-game chat.)

I was gonna buy this anyway because I genuinely like the tunes.

Nintendo being a cancer made me buy it sooner.
