Why did the devs abandon this game man, it's so good..

I was stoked to see this and discover a short, comfy-looking action game. I couldn't wait to support a small, true-indie studio that was passionate enough to actually include a four-player-split-screen for couch coop too. This is a much beloved genre that is being forgotten and I was keen to finally play something simple, not bloated with bs like most modern titles. Nothing fussed me about the graphics or gameplay, nor anything else raised by the negative reviews... Then my heart sank when I saw the game ...
