Finally writing a review for this game nearly ten years after playing it for the first time. Undertale shaped a lot of my childhood that I can remember, I spent years obsessed with the rich lore and world building, the characters, everything. I think it was amplified by the fact the game was at its peak in popularity back then, and you couldn't go anywhere online without seeing people sharing art or theorizing or just discussing how much they also loved Undertale. It made you feel like the game didn't just end when you finished playing it and turned it off, instead it sort of invaded every part of your life and you weren't able to get it out of your head.

I think part of that is why I loved it so much and why it's stuck with me till this day. While it just wouldn't be possible to get that experience for yourself as a new player if you picked the game up for the first time today, that doesn't take away from the fact that the game itself is brilliant. That's WHY it exploded back then and even gained such a cult following, and why it holds up today as so many people's favorite game. There's a reason it was beloved (and still is) even if it's associated with some "cringe culture" or whatever people want to call it. (Thank god we're over that period of time where people hated on the game just because it was popular and children liked it.)

Undertale is a fantastic game. It's an incredibly fun turn-based RPG. The gameplay is addictive, the story goes WAY deeper than what you see on screen, and the art is charming and cute. While I think Toby's sense of humor is much better in his more recent project, there's still a few jokes and gimmicks that make me laugh whenever I replay this game. It'll always hold a special place in my heart. I've recommended this game to just about everyone that I've ever known. It's simple enough that even a child or old person who's never touched a game before can pick it up and understand the mechanics relatively quickly, and only a handful of fights are challenging enough to make you sit up straight.

For such a reasonable price, it's kind of a no-brainer whether you're looking for a new obsession or just a fun game to spend some time on. If you're looking at reviews you're probably on the fence already, so consider this review your sign to give it a shot. If the game doesn't draw you in you can always refund it as long as your two hour window isn't up. Something tells me you won't, though. Something tells me you'll find yourself drawn into the world of Undertale like I was almost a decade ago. Go climb Mt. Ebott and fall into a new obsession.
