Visuals are great. Gameplay is severely lacking. 'Immersive sim' tag is very misplaced here. It's a 'walking sim' through and through. Or a 'limping sim' actually. Teaser at the end of the demo was more interesting than what I played. So I think I'll find more enjoyment watching someone else play this game on YouTube.

Near perfect remake.
Points deducted for:
- disturbing lack of Gamepig;
- not being able to use coffee machines.

I don't understand why this is free, so I remedied this situation by purchasing the Supporter Pack

Neat idea, cute presentation, but very little substance. And it's short (100% in 100 minutes), though I don't think lengthening the game would improve it, but maybe it would give some justification for the price tag.

I've been waiting for 7 years and I was not disappointed. The game is perfect for my taste.

It's a more or less classic adventure game, with some light combat in the mix, wrapped in the most stunning rendition of the Giger-esque biomechanical imagery. The game oozes atmosphere (quite literally). The visuals are perfectly complimented with evocative soundscapes.

From the beginning, you are thrown into this world without any instructions or explanations. All you can do is intuitively explore and make sense of this world as you go. You will come across puzzles that are like weird alien devices. It all kinda reminds me of Myst. Each device does something unique, sometimes leading to impressive transformations of the environment around you.
To use some of the devices you sometimes need to collect different tools. At some point, you find that one of those tools doubles as a close-range weapon. The combat in the game is simple, slow, dirty, and unpleasant, and all of that is by design. As with everything else in a game it is done in such a way that enhances players' immersion and cohesion of the world. There are enough of enemies to give a sense of danger, but not so many that it turns into an action game. And often times combat can be avoided altogether, you can either run away/around or just let the creatures that block your path go their own way.
I died twice through the whole game - the first time from some flying drones that were spraying something that I didn't expect to hurt that much, and the second from rushing too much and getting sandwiched by two big monsters with an unloaded gun. Neither of these deaths was a significant setback, so I didn't ever get frustrated.

The reception of the games is mixed at the moment, which isn't surprising for something so niche and artistic. But some of the negative reviews are perplexing to me. Especially people being disappointed that it's not an action game and the combat isn't fun. I don't believe the devs ever advertised the game to be like Doom. Seems that people really didn't understand what they were offered.
Length complaint I can understand at least, the game is relatively short, I finished it in 7.5 hours (although some of it time the game was just on while I was having lunch, so probably more like 6 hours). If you don't think that length justifies the price tag, wait for a sale. I personally feel like my money was well spent here (and I payed for the deluxe edition), the quality of the game is immaculate. And I take a well-paced game that leaves you a bit hungry for more over one that has a lot of padding and overstays it's welcome any day.
The most reasonable complaint I see is about a promised non-linearity and 'moral choices' which are not present in the game (aside from the very beginning). It would've been cool to have that feature and to have some alternative endings to the one we've got.
This leads me to the last complaint - how the game ends. Well, it is a bit of a ruined orgasm, which is fitting :)) But the final area and the whole sequence taking place there is so breathtaking, that I couldn't feel let down by that.

In my eyes, the game is an absolute masterpiece, and I hope that despite the mixed reception the devs are satisfied with the result of their work, and are ready and excited to do more. I hope to see more of this world, maybe with some of those scrapped ideas brought back, like the 'moral choices' feature. And perhaps a bit more of Beksinski ;)
