This is my favorite media of all time. I played this game to death, watched Tarkovsky's Stalker (1979), and read Roadside Picnic by the Strugatsky brothers. This game, and all accompanying media, have such deep and profound stories. While they're all slightly different the overall themes and atmosphere are the same. The Zone is a mysterious beast that holds many secrets and calls to you in your dreams. I've never thought so much about a story as I have for STALKER, and it all began with this game. This is my favorite game of all time and I can't recommend it enough.

FPS where getting equipment is the only way to upgrade, or you can beat the game with your starting gear and make it hard on yourself. The environment makes the game, but the combat is so rewarding. Mods breathe new life into this game for even more play throughs (although there are many different endings to keep it new)! I recommend Autumn Aurora, which may actually allow you to play this game without purchasing it (but you really should buy it)!
