Fun little co-op hack n' slash game. There are abilities to upgrade, new items to obtain. Scratches a bit of that Diablo itch. Limited resolution options on PC unfortunately. Seems to work great on Steam Deck though.

The reason I haven't played Spider-Man before now is because it didn't make sense for me to drop $500+ on another console. As I've grown up, I've gotten tired of games being tied to specific hardware. I already own a capable PC and I'm personally not a fan of the walled garden ecosystems that consoles provide. So I'm SUPER glad Sony is embracing PC, and especially Steam. It is great to see them accepting that people want access to their awesome games on systems other than actual PlayStation hardware. Interestingly, from the good will they're generating through doing this I'm already way more likely to ever want to buy a PS5 than I would have been prior to this (especially if they figure out things like cross save/cross buy/cross play etc).

Steam Deck support on launch was also a nice surprise.

Sony, keep doing this and I'll keep buying your games. That simple. Also...bring Uncharted 1-3 to PC before Uncharted 4! Everyone wants that!

Final words, this time about the actual game and the port itself: In short, I can already tell I'm in for an AMAZING experience. Sony are extremely lucky to have acquired Nixxes. They make the best PC ports out there, and there is no exception for this game. Insomniac seems to have made a masterpiece--the story, graphics, music, gameplay etc. are all top notch and it's immediately apparent. Can't wait to swing back in. Also, if you're listening Sony, give us Gravity Rush, Bloodborne, etc. on PC too!

One of the greatest games of the decade, marred by 3 lengthy exclusivity periods prior to launching on Steam. Scroll to the bottom for a shorter summary + info on port quality and performance.

It would have been fun for Steam players to be a part of the initial launch hype and discussion surrounding this game--see Elden Ring or the Resident Evil series as prime examples. There's a certain charm to having everyone enjoying a game together at the same time. I wish Steam players could have experienced this game on PC from the beginning alongside PlayStation friends.

Instead they dangled the carrot in front of our noses for years. Before the game even released on PlayStation in early 2020, we saw footage that clearly stated the gameplay was "captured on PC."

So we knew the PC version has existed for years. We just couldn't have it until Square finally saw fit to give it to us. And it's not like they used that extra time to make it an amazing PC port with all the features we love. But I'll get to that later. First they extended their PS exclusivity deal for the DLC. Then they went and made it an Epic Exclusive when it finally did release on PC. And now here we are, finally on Steam.

This wouldn't be such a big deal, I suppose...if this wasn't just part 1 of a 3 part trilogy. And they could repeat this practice for parts 2 and 3. Expect to have things spoiled by the time those hit Steam. Expect for everyone to tell you whether they're good or not before you have a chance to form your own fresh opinion. I'm just tired of publishers using PC (and Steam in particular) as a place to chase sales from double/triple dippers instead of treating all of their loyal fans equally, like plenty of other publishers do.

This trend leaves potentially millions of players who waited patiently for the Steam release in a weird place, where they feel like second class citizens.

Do I still recommend the game? Yes. It's got an amazing story and top notch gameplay. The port itself is functional, but unfortunately a bit bare-bones. No ultra-wide support is disappointing, considering modders had it working within days. Many graphics options are simply not present. But it is far from the worst port they've done (ahem...FF13-2).

-------
TLDR: Square needs to take some lessons from Capcom on how to treat their loyal fans. I own every Final Fantasy game on Steam. Would you expect someone to go buy an episode of a TV show on Apple TV if they own all the other episodes on, say, Amazon? No. That would be silly. Their Epic deal was no different. But I'm glad it's finally here with the rest of the Final Fantasy games in my library.

At the very least, thank you Square Enix for Steam Deck compatibility at launch. That is always welcome.

Early Access Review
Ok, good game. BUT. Let me transfer my character to other servers like Valheim does. At least make it an OPTION. I understand that some PVP servers won't want to use this feature. But I have limited time to play games. I don't want my play to be dependent on servers staying online. It's fatiguing to constantly restart.

Good game. The skin designs are quite terrible and feel rather cheap, but the gameplay itself is a wonderful blend of Halo and Portal.

I beat this game at around 6 hours of play time and had a wonderful time with it. Honestly, it's one of the best modern 'nods' to Super Mario 64 that I've played. The most important things to get right in a 3D platformer are the jumping mechanics, and they succeeded. The worlds are bright and colorful - there is a lot to collect, so if you're a fan of collectathons you'll be right at home here. Honestly, don't sleep on this game if you're wanting a nostalgic 3D platformer to relive your childhood.

It's best played on the Steam Deck in my opinion, though you should note that you need to force Proton to get the best experience. By default it runs the native Linux version, and ironically that doesn't run as well (you'll notice that it's a bit stuttery whereas the Proton/Windows version is flawless).

I want Valve to make more games. They've clearly still "got it" -- it's just rare to see. This is a great little demo that will take you 20-30 mins to finish. Ending is weeeeeird but I loved the time I spent with it.

Despite no official Ultrawide support and some performance issues that need smoothing out, this game is spectacular. But it may take a while to really see why. It does not hold your hand at all. It is brutal. I have struggled with Souls-like games because of this. However, Elden Ring may be the first one that I will finish. Simply because the open world design really improves the formula. If you're frustrated or stuck on a boss, go somewhere else. There is a ton to explore. Co op is great fun once you get used to how it works. Unfortunately, the servers aren't very stable and it can sometimes be laggy or disconnect.

Even with these rough edges, the game is going to go down in history as one of the greatest RPGs. I just hope they'll give it the polish it deserves. The combat and variety of weapons and items is astounding. The world is massive and beautiful. Grab a friend or two and go have some fun.

Square Enix: We know PC gamers want FF7 Remake. It’s one of the greatest games of the generation. But we like milking you so we’re gonna make you wait through multiple timed exclusivity periods and then charge you $70. Also, let’s make it Epic exclusive for another year. Oh, by the way we are incompetent and don’t know how to make a proper PC port that doesn’t have stuttering.

Sony: Hey PC, here’s a great game we hope you will enjoy playing! We know you’ve waited a long time to play it so we are asking a reasonable price and bringing it straight to Steam. Oh and by the way it’s a top of the line PC port.
