Teeworlds offers an easy-to-run helping of free crazy competitive 2D shooting action. While it features a small selection of weapons, players really don't need a lot of diverse firepower to get the job done, once they get the hang of using the grappling hook. Player customization is nothing special, yet the game's cartoonishly simple aesthetics and lack of blood/gore allow it to appeal to younger audiences.

However, there are some flaws to Teeworlds. For some reason, grappling hooks can hook into other players. While this may sound like it serves as a cooperative purpose in team games, i.e. helping a friend up by acting as an object they can pull themselves onto ledges with/use you for momentum, it often ends up being used as an offensive tool to get in close with enemies and force them to hope that they get in more hits with a shotgun/hammer than their clingy adversary. This somewhat defeats the purpose of using the hook for dodging projectiles or placing yourself in an advantageous position when engaging enemies. On top of that, teammates and enemies alike can actually hinder player movement just because the game hooks into them instead of the intended wall--I've had more than one occurence where I or a teammate accidentally hooked one-another while falling over a pit, killing us both.

Aside from that one game mechanics, Teeworlds also suffers from an overall bad community. People seem prone to kicking one another for no good reason, which is called "funvoting" IIRC. Expect a fair sum of the other Tees you run into to have a bad mood as well.

All in all, Teeworlds is a multiplayer game complimented by it's simplistic easy to play, hard to master formula. Unfortunately, the community and player-grappling mechanics may sour your experience a bit, but it's worth a try.

Also, the map ctf5 is this game's Dust2, especially on American servers, so I hope you like that map a lot.

A little while after Overkill put micros in PayDay2, Tripwire does the same thing, as if they learned nothing. Oh well, they're just cosmetics, right?

Fast forward to today, it's been close to 2 years ever since the first DLC weapon pack was launched, and do you want to take a guess at when it was that I dropped this game completely? My decision was made concrete after..pretty much all of my friends quit playing it too, considering how disgusting the pricing model was. Oh sure, just one person can buy it and everyone else uses it for free, but that doesn't change the fact that we are paying way too much per dlc pack, let alone paying for new gameplay content in the first place, after years of this sort of thing being free.

"You don't HAVE to buy it." I also don't have to put up with this kind of crap when games like Deep Rock Galactic exist, and are better in every single way.

TLDR; friendship ended with Killing Floor 2, now Deep Rock Galactic is my best friend. Cannot recommend, unless you enjoy content being paywalled for a game you already paid for.

EDIT: As of March 24, 2016, I have decided to take a look at the game's current state, in response to it's latest free update. That being said, I will try to stay positive out of the hope that things have gotten better. This does not change my previous gripes about PD2, however--I will update this review again after a while.

--ORIGINAL POST--
Came back for a bit after Crimefest was over.

First drop was a safe.

Uninstalled.

Thanks for lying to us about micros, Almir

2019 update: I played some of the game in the past couple years, and it's gotten updates here and there. Contagion's development is..pretty much dead, in favor of their VR venture, so there really *is* some changes being done to ZPS. Unfortunately, the servers are very sparsely populated, save for whenever I happen to be able to check (which is very late in the evening here in the US) and see 1-2 EU servers fairly populated, but with too high of ping for my comfort.

The review isn't so much of an opposing recommend as it is a "don't get your hopes up" by now. Thanks to Tabajara for responding to the review constructively. It's been said many times, many ways, but I love ZPS, and it's existence means a lot to me on steam.

Notice: The Contagion developers seem to be so busy with their retail game that ZPS' updating has slowed to a crawl, if it's even being updated anymore. I would really, really like for a developer or two to give evidence that I'm wrong, as I still love ZPS and would prefer that it does not befall the same fate as it's GoldSrc brother, Zombie Panic.

TL;DR: As much as I like it, I simply cannot recommend any new players to try this game out. The difficulty curve at this point in time is frustrating for beginners, as a great majority of the community left is veterans. Development has practically ceased in favor of Contagion. ZPS is actively dying. Balance needs fixing, badly.

Ladies and gentlemen, Zombie Panic Source. This was a great mod back in its prime. I would go so far as to say it was one of the best, if not THE best, multiplayer SMods of its time. An update on February 11, 2011 (if i recall correctly) made the game even more difficult by "fixing" knockback, though this made things even harder for Survivors when attempting to win. It has not been "re-broken" since, adding to the steep difficulty curve for humans.

Was one of the best SMods of it's time. Not anymore.

It's core idea is this: two teams, humans and zombies, are 100% player-controlled, battling for either the sake of humanity or for the world to be a bit more overrun with undead. Unlike Contagion, there is no AI here. None. Every single moving entity is controlled by a living, human being. It also is unlike Left 4 Dead in the sense that humans are not able to take tons and tons of damage; with normal health and no armor, four scratches (3 from the Carrier) and you're dead. Meanwhile, Zombies literally eat bullets for breakfast, and it's gonna take a lot to their face for them to fall.

This game encourages teamwork, but it is not mandatory, meaning you could totally be a jerk and leave your fellow survivors to die and still win. That being said, there's the chance that they will come back with a vengeance, making your job of surviving much harder than before. Every bullet and survivor counts.

Unfortunately, in a game like this, balance is always an issue, and right now there is a lack thereof. When knockback was fixed on zombies, instead of bullets pushing them back, zombies are "slowed down" instead, and sometimes this mechanic doesn't even work properly. What's worse is that smart zombies can actually power through the sluggish spells, maiming survivors even as they panic to get away.

It has been over a year now since the last update. Contagion, the successor to this mod, is not looking much better. The community is dying, servers becoming more and more empty by the minute. Some groups do attempt to keep it alive, like the Specialist League (who're gone now, lmao), but it only does so much for the game. ZPS desparately needs an update or two, but there's no indicator in sight, as made clear by game news updates for Contagion in the Zombie Panic Source feed.

On a more personal note, ZPS is the reason I found Steam in the first place--that's why it sucks so much to see it die.

CS:GO Review
People have told me I need a rank in order to be worth any skill, yet I've sat on the #1 spot on quite a few teams that're filled with ranked participants.

"Hey guys! Look at us! We can be like Counter Strike too! Look at our new skin updates you have to pay for! We just launched an anniversary DLC! But you have to pay for it."

Yeah thanks for reminding us how the F2P model is horribly flawed, TI.
