basically an interactive movie, costs about the same as one too.
my one complaint is that there's a loading screen between each zone, so if you wanted to hear certain lines again for a clue you're going to be loading a lot.

hades-like with all of the problems of a hades-like - RNG determining your run, annoying enemies with shields, annoying enemies with way too fast and common attack patterns, and it requiring multiple runs to get enough unlocks to even see the last stage (assuming you're not a god).

it's fun though, a bit lacking in content right now, but fun.

fastest incremental game i've played, fun but i wish there was more to it before you reach the "click anywhere to win" stage of digging and speed through each prestige rank.

"A short taste of The Big Catch" - it's nearly 10 hours long to beat the entire thing and they still call it a short demo and let you have it for free
platforming controls are perfect, stage design is great, the music fits really well, it's exactly what you'd want from a 3d platformer.

the big thing is that it can be really difficult at times, but once you figure out the tricks a difficult part is relying on, you'll eventually find yourself gliding through them as if it were nothing.
e.g. at the southern garden temple i had a lot of trouble with the pillar jumps at first, but eventually i was able to consistently clear them without dying. otherwise, the difficulty can be overcome if you just keep at it.
alternatively you can take an alternate, unintended path if you're creative and refuse to learn a certain mechanic, because the game lets you do that (i.e. no invisible walls blocking shortcuts)

one problem is that they don't really seem to explain what spinning does or why it's useful, so for most of my playthrough i didn't use the spin ability at all because it seemed useless and was such a hassle to start going with it.
if you want to know, it decreases your fall speed and gives you the same jump height boost as slam jumping. you can ignore it entirely as a mechanic and you'll be fine

instead of having to keep track of item respawns and powerups, the game tells you where they are and shares them with the team.
instead of needing perfect map knowledge to get a weapon better than a peashooter before getting obliterated, they just give you a good weapon from the start.
instead of needing to research and practice strafe jumping for a week to keep up, you can now just hit shift to obtain the same speed as a high level player.

the old guard of arena shooters are throwing a fit about it not being a clone of quake live, but the changes they've made to the sacred formula actually make it fun for people outside their clique.

just boring.
in my hour of gametime at least half of that time was spent waiting so i could burn the very slow trickle of money you find and earn on digging, running back and forth in caves and tunnels you can't light up, and losing money on repeated waypoint signals.

it probably gets better later on when you unlock more advanced parts and mechanics, but that's going to take me such a long time of dull waiting and aimless digging to get there.
i just don't have the patience for that when the games introduction is mostly waiting for money, using all of that money to dig closer to another endpoint, then waiting for more money to either dig closer or buy the equipment.

publisher laid off a good chunk of the team down to a skeleton crew of managers. promised early access features aren't happening unless an actual miracle occurs.
this was after 2 weeks of "big things are coming", "we're listening to the community", and "planning for sprints". in case you didn't know, sprint planning should take a couple of hours at most, not weeks.

what the hell are they even doing to drop the ball this hard?
