Cave Story is just fun, plain and simple.

But I think what I like so much about Cave Story is how remarkably human it feels. This is the story of the Hero's Journey, down to a T, but it feels unique in a way that is almost difficult to capture in words. There are moments of whimsical adventuring, sadness, despair, love and triumph. Every interaction between characters is meaningful and purposeful, as well as every twist and turn in the plot.

The game looks great, runs great, and feels great. It's very well made overall, and the extra soundtrack, art style choices, and time trials are awesome bonuses as well.

Not all games can make you really feel something, but Cave Story is one of those games, and if you ask me, it does a damn good job.

It isn't perfect though. Some sections of the game drag on too long for my liking, and are too repetitive. The game is somewhat short, but still just satisying enough. The path to the secret ending is an awesome journey, but the game doesn't do the best job showing you how to start working towards it, besides a few hints here and there. These are minor problems though, in the long run.

If you don't own this, at least go download the free version and give it a try. If you like it, I seriously recommend getting this steam version. You are missing out.
