Early Access Review
At the moment, it has nothing but the hype.

I played with a friend for 10 hours before deciding to let it be. The multiplayer features are almost as bad as No Man's Sky was at release. The Gameplay loop is boring AF.

In order for us to come back to the game, it needs:
  • Shared Savegame. So all your friends can play without the need of a Host
  • More meaningful bulding. Right now we place everything randomly outdoors and make the place look like a landfill. The only reason I ever built foundations and a roof, was to build a bed.
  • Less busywork. Even though the Pals work for you, it still takes ages and a lot of micromanagement to do stuff in your base. Let us build a basemanager who assigns the most useful Pals automatically or something like that.
  • More exciting things to do. I mean, after doing 1 dungeon you saw them all. Even Diablo 4 did a much better job because the actual gameplay was fun.
  • Better controls. The Controls are tedious and not snappy enough. Switching from flying mounts to riding mounts should be instant. Fighting with pals should skip some of the animations so it feels better to swap them out.
  • Challenging Bossfights Ok, I only fought the Boss at Rayne's Tower before uninstalling, but it was really nothing more than running in circles while the Pals attacked it. Yawn.

I hope this game will become worthy of the hype. Until then, I can't recommend.

Amazing game.
I played the entire 140 hours together with a friend.

It has everything we like:
- Crafting
- Base Building
- Resource Gathering
- Upgrading
- Engaging Story
- Good Gameplay

I played it in 2023 and it was my GOTY.

Uninstalled after 2 tracks as a plebeian free player.
Why does everything Ubisoft touches turn to ♥♥♥♥? They ruined this franchise with their greed.

Finally a good Tetris game on Steam.
Easy to learn, hard to master.

People played (well, kinda) this game for almost a decade and complain that the steam version isn't free?
I say f*ck 'em!
I bought this game exactly because it was free all these years and still is getting updated.

It's the only relevant game in this genre if you ask me. I wanna show my support.

One of the few games where Story and Atmosphere perfectly blend together.
If you played the Max Payne games you know that Remedy are masters of the art.

The narration and characters are great, as is the soundtrack. The graphics have aged poorly, but this is still a game you should have played from start to finish at least once.

After ~50h of learning and starting my new game, I can definitely recommend GameMaker Studio.
I made 2 small mobile games before, all 2D, with Unity3D and switched to GMS because I was looking for a better 2D workflow. I'm glad I made the jump, even though GMS can improve in some aspects.

My biggest wish would be to use C#..
The proprietary language of GMS, GML, is really easy to use if you already know a higher language, but at the moment it just lacks functionality. It's hard to compete with Microsoft, so that is to be expected.
Another painpoint is their Intellisense implementation. Since there isn't really a concept of private functions or classes in GML, you'll see all sorts of properties popping up in the context menu - even though they aren't even in the scope of the currently selected object.

That being said: I like GMS better than Unity3D and way better than Godot for 2D Development.
