The basic premise is that you can choose where your crew are placed, using theirs' and the modules' abilities to your advantage. You need to survive each week (each turn) as your ship continuously falls apart around you. Eventually, you reach Mars and follow through on the linear story line.

Unfortunately, this game is a weighted dice roller disguised as a strategy game. I have no mathematical evidence to support this, but my experience tells me that, regardless of how many times I want to give this game a try, this insurmountable challenge is out of reach.

Between turns, you can be presented with two choices - one which gives you hull, one which gives you a stress reduction, and both of them do enough damage to kill the majority of your team.

You can get to the final week of your trip with all of your team, then get hit with an event that will destroy the hull of your ship unless you can avoid rolling three numbers that deal damage on your six-sided dice. And those damage stack for each roll.

You can get several events that do damage to your ship AND damage your crew's health, and each of them take up enough dice rolls to prevent you from eliminating either, resulting in your team dying without any hope of you succeeding.

There are games that use RNG and challenge to make the payoff of reaching the top seem so sweet, knowing that your choices matter. This is a game where choices do not matter if you do not have an incredible seed. Hit up the slots if you think you're lucky enough to have fun in this game.

If you're looking for a game that runs easy and might have a fun atmosphere and story, you better have a dedicated GPU, because this game doesn't support integrated graphics, according to the dev. Luckily there's plenty of low-impact games out there that you can play instead.

EDIT: Tried playing it on my desktop, had two crashes to desktop. Also, automatically runs with your controller if it's plugged in, but then won't adapt to your controller for the game, so the menu runs in controller mode, but the actual game won't let you control AT ALL! Such a broken game.

EDIT 2: Wow. I have no idea where to even begin with the story and the bugs involved. I think I must have skipped a whole act of the plot because of one bug. Or maybe that's how it was intended. I can't tell because all the bugs leading up to it and afterwards have just completely warped my perception of this game. If it's THAT meta, then bravo.

I'd recommend Sheltered if you're looking for a low-key management game that has post-apocalyptic vibes to it. Analogous to Fallout Shelter, but no microtransactions, just a mangement sim. Combat is lackluster, might be that the difficulty on normal is too low. It's very easy to make the system work for you rather than against, and besides RNG with the rain and food supplies, it really just depends on your ability to plan out routes with the right characters. There isn't much incentive to play the game cautiously, but then again I haven't played on higher difficulties.

ON SALE, pretty fun game. As a backer on Kickstarter, I'm glad I was able to support creators (even if it seems like the game has been left to the dust of the wasteland)

Fun game, roguelike with twinstick shooter influences and a rudimentary but challenging crafting/eco-system. Good for those looking for a challenge, steep skill curve. Variety of enemies and challenging bosses with a lot of fun guns. 8/10
