Pretty fun kaizo game, as someone who plays a tooooon of kaizo stuff it's really nice seeing these kinds of games pop up. It's not perfect, some parts are a little janky like music not playing randomly and whatnot, and the final boss is imo not great, but it's definitely a game I'd recommend if you're into kaizo games or platformers in general.

Also, the kaizo block on the very last level (especially the one in kaizolike mode) was pure evil and I loved it.

Pogostuck is a very mixed game in my mind. This is a tricky review to write, because I don't necessarily consider it a bad game; yet I found myself coming away from it by the end with more negative things to say than positive, and I really cannot recommend this experience for most players overall for a few major reasons.

I think it's worth starting with the aspects this game excels at. As far as Foddian-style games go, I believe Pogostuck is the strongest addition to the genre from a fundamental gameplay perspective. It's simple on paper, yet has a level of intricacy to it that can enable players to continue to master it for hundreds of hours. The game includes tons of cosmetics and accessories to adorn your character with, which are fun to discover and use. The fact that you can save lost progress with enough skill and practice is also unique and helps the experience feel fair, as well as encouraging the player to use their falls to their advantage. I also quite like the multiplayer mechanic, as it incentivizes there to be an active community of players and enables friends to hang out with one another. The game's cutesy/cartoony visual style is vibrant and pleasant to look at, giving it a unique charm and providing a breath of fresh air amidst the game's particularly aggravating moments. As far as playing the game goes, I think it shines most when individually completing (and, to an extent, mastering) each map - primarily the first one. For most players, the first map is accessible and can be completed given enough persistence; but I do not think this is applicable for maps 2 and 3. Map 3 is accessible for the most part, and has some of the most fun gameplay out of the main three, yet completely falters at the ending's massive difficulty spike, which can stunt progress and greatly demotivate the player (I'll come back to this topic later). Map 2, conversely, maintains a consistently increasing difficulty through the map, yet easily has the most difficult gameplay out of any Foddian-style game currently.

Beyond this, I truly cannot recommend much else this game has to offer. In addition to its main maps, the game includes a plethora of game modes and extras which range from mediocre to outright egregious. Achievements revolving around speedrunning the maps (save for one, which I'll talk about later) work the best, since the game includes many alternative routes and "skips" which enhance speedrun tactics and enable players to achieve ludicrous completion times. Skate mode is also surprisingly entertaining after a little practice, as it freshens up the usual pogostick-oriented gameplay. However, most of the others offer little enjoyment. The invisible and ice modes of map 1, loot mode, and the legend exam are the greatest examples of this, and honestly greatly take away from the overall enjoyability of the game in my opinion. In fact, the legend exam, which is the final challenge the game has to offer, is what ultimately dissuaded me from recommending this game to others; in short, it requires you to beat all three main maps back-to-back in under 15 minutes, which (trust me) is exceedingly tight. The exam's ending also ends up being the third map's ending, which as stated prior, is a massive difficulty spike in the game and is, without a doubt, the single hardest segment in the game by far. This makes failing the very end of the 15-minute long ordeal quite commonplace, which gets tiring and demotivating quickly. For the amount of grinding it takes to get to the point where the legend exam is feasible, and considering how tedious and aggravating it gets after enough attempts at it, I just cannot in sound mind recommend anybody to put themselves through it. It is by far the hardest thing I have ever done, and yet also one of the least fulfilling since it did not leave me with a good impression of the game afterwards. I think it's also worth mentioning that the game has some serious performance issues for some reason, which I theorize comes from a lack of proper optimization. Even on reduced graphics settings, in my experience, as well as based on what I've heard from friends and fellow Pogostuck players, there are frequent dips in frame-rate and lag spikes that can occur at the most inopportune of times. I don't exactly understand why this is such a major issue, and I thought for some time that it was on my end as a result of my older computer, but I think it's a common enough problem to point out in this review as a negative.

Overall, a lot of my criticism for the game comes from the extra modes and features piled on top of a strong base. I can look past these problems when it comes to completing the maps a single time, or perhaps speedrunning them to an extent, but in general I found more wrong with the game than right - hence the negative review. I think it makes more sense to label this as a negative review because although you're not forced to play the more negative aspects of the game, they are built into the game as core gameplay experiences and features, and are ultimately designed as part of the Pogostuck experience in my opinion. I believe that shrugging these off because they are not the "main game" is unfair, as the game would be much stronger overall without them. It is not a game I would recommend in general, and as such, I think it's most appropriate to mark this review as a negative one to communicate that.

this is the worst game i have ever played, bar none. never before have i felt such excruciating torment as i did while playing through this experience. each second i spent in this nightmare realm of catgirls exponentially increased my desire to throw my entire computer away and fling myself directly into the sun. upon making it to the 5th, 6th, and 7th acts of this hellish disaster of a game, after observing the "content" this game has to offer, i felt a severe urge to claw my eyeballs out which was only compounded by each consequent scene. upon playing this game, i experienced emotions i could have never imagined prior; extreme discomfort, physical and mental torment, and severe depression are nothing compared to what i felt when opening this game and experiencing it for the first time. i would rather shove myself head-first into a meat grinder than go through the pure, concentrated hell that this game is. please, for the love of all that is holy, do not subject yourself to this torment as i did. do not purchase this game, even if it and the dlc are each on sale for $4, making it an objective steal in marketing terms. this is the worst $8 i have, and ever will, spend on anything in my entire life without a doubt. it's not worth it. i beg you to consider doing literally anything else with your time, as even sitting in your chair contemplating the universe for a trillion years would be miles more productive than playing this game. the mere six hours i spent playing this do not accurately represent the torture and torment i endured, as a lifetime of struggle in the deepest reaches of hell would be the only thing that could possibly rival this. don't subject yourself to the "cute" catgirls. they are a ploy. it's all an elaborate setup to get you to fall for it, only to lure you into its devastating trap and devour you from the inside. don't subject yourself to the horrific writing, consisting of 10 minute long scenes talking about age and shampoo and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ whale sharks. play something meaningful that can change your life for the better, or at the very least, play something that is harmless. this game is the pure embodiment of the devil himself. hell is a welcome treat in comparison to this; so take a vacation there, and enjoy your time, knowing full well that you have escaped an obscene fate. i envy you.

LISA is one of the most interesting RPG's I've ever played. The game's ability to take a simple concept - a ruined, apocalyptic world born as a result of a mysterious and drastic event - and make it feel realistic in the way that it's presented, as well as allowing the player to become invested in the characters and their actions and motives, is very impressive. Despite the incredibly wacky humor and actions that occur throughout, nothing feels necessarily out of place given the context of what has happened, and it acts as a nice balance between the much darker elements that the game throws at you.

The story in LISA is what I became heavily invested in when I played. I'm a sucker for darker narratives - OMORI and Chicory recently enamored me due to their emphasis on more tragic themes - and LISA wholeheartedly delivered on this front. I especially like how the DLC, LISA the Joyful, ties in quite neatly with the base game and gives the player some deeper insight as to how the story plays out, while offering some slightly different gameplay mechanics. The game's "Pain Mode", a not-so-subtle substitute for a typical hard mode you'd find in most other games, not only offers a highly unique and enjoyable challenge for the player, but also adds in a couple more narrative beats that tie some loose ends together nicely. Some mysteries are left for interpretation by the player, but many present answers to them if they look hard enough.

I also became very invested in the various characters presented throughout, and I love that they all have strengths as well as flaws (some a *teensy* bit more pronounced than others...). Even with these flaws, however, a lot of the morals the game presents are not black and white, meaning that characters with differing view points are not necessarily right or wrong. It's largely up to the player to deduce what they believe to be correct or not, and this is something I find very captivating in story-based games like these. It helps the characters feel three-dimensional and real.

The humor of the game is also a factor that left me wanting more when I was finished with it. It's crude, and honestly pretty disturbing at times, but I found myself laughing at jokes even after seeing them for a second or third time without fail. As stated before, the goofier elements help off-set a lot of the more horrific sections, putting the player into a happy equilibrium where they can safely indulge in both aspects without feeling overwhelmed by one or the other. It's a difficult balance to strike, but I believe that LISA executes it flawlessly.

Overall, this game is the complete package. I had it recommended to me by a friend, and after playing it and seeing almost everything the game has to offer, I can safely pay that recommendation forward to anyone else interested in a dark, yet humorous, story RPG. Please give it a shot, you won't regret it.

As a person who is incredibly fond of these little fluffballs, Stray warmed my heart through every step of the wonderful journey this game presents. And, while the protagonist being a cat is both adorable and a truly novel idea that I believe holds up well throughout the entire experience, what stood out to me the most were the environments and spooky dystopian-cyberpunk atmospheres the game created. While I won't spoil my favorite moments as they are fairly significant story-wise, there are some cutscenes and moments through the journey where I was stunned by what the game had to show off.

My only real complaints are that the game is a wee bit pricey for the amount of time you will reasonably end up spending in the game (although I didn't mind this as much; I got a lot of personal enjoyment out of exploring every crevice the game had to offer and that's what matters to me the most), and the fact that the frame-rate is consistently in the 30-40fps range, which can even tank below that in some sections of the game.

I recommend getting this game on a sale, as you'll likely get the most bang for your buck that way. Regardless, I had an incredible time exploring the world this game had to offer and recommend it wholeheartedly. Cat game best game.

A truly fantastic rhythm game that was an absolute joy to play through. I got S+ ranks on every level in the game, and there was not a single one I truly disliked; the DLC content in particular left me pleasantly surprised, as it offers some of the most unique and enjoyable gameplay in my opinion. I highly recommend giving this one a shot.

This is a very cute game with some brutal IL's that were a blast to achieve. Short, but incredibly sweet.

I first came across this game when I saw my friend play it a few months back. Upon first glance I had already been intrigued, given the general focus on painting and the seemingly creative gameplay gimmicks that separated it from others of its type. I didn't have the chance to experience the game for myself until about a week or so ago. Other than the brief snippets of the game I had seen from my friend's own indulgence, I had little to no idea what the experience would have to offer from a story perspective. And, to be honest, this is the best way to go about enjoying this game.

The story is most definitely the focal point of Chicory, and while this is the case, it doesn't make other aspects, such as the gameplay, characters, side missions, and ESPECIALLY the music any lesser as a result. In fact, it was a delight to observe the characters living their daily lives in this uniqeu world, and the soundtrack is one of the best in a game I have heard in a very long time. There is not a single song that I didn't like, or even love, while going through this game.

While the black-and-white aesthetic of the game as a whole put me off at first glance (and by this I mean for about a minute or two), it begins to really separate the game from most others, even those with a monochrome look to them. Since the main gimmick revolves around using color to access areas or collect secrets, I believe that encasing the world in this colorless environment is beyond fitting, and adds an extra depth to the narrative and overall realism of the story. In short, it makes those brief moments of bursting color all the more satisfying, expressive, and indulgent.

I feel that this game connects on a deeper level especially to us aspiring artists in the world. Its message is profound in such a way that resonated with me more than some games with similar thematics such as Celeste or OMORI, and I think that's largely due to the fact that it struck some familiar notes for me personally. I believe this gives me a much greater bias towards the game as a result, but nonetheless, I think that anyone, regardless of artistic background or intent, going about playing this game will still have an immaculate experience.

As a whole, Chicory: A Colorful Tale is undoubtedly a masterpiece in most every regard. It's unique, enjoyable, and carries morals that'll stick with you for quite a while. Its level of polish is unmatched in my opinion to the majority of AAA games that come out these days; hell, the ONLY mistake I found was a typo which I only really noticed because I tend to read things a bit more in-depth than the average player would. I recommend getting this game, whether at max price or on sale, for an unforgettable experience.

tl;dr This game is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ incredible. Definitely GOTY in my eyes.

This is by far one of the most unique experiences with a psychological horror game I've had. Going in completely blind definitely helped accentuate the unease I felt going through each section of the game, and uncovering its mysteries was a gratifying and worthwhile endeavor. Both the art style and music are incredibly unique, with fascinating characters, plot devices, and enticing snippets of horror sprinkled throughout, balancing the entire package and making it far more memorable than most games I've played.

To anyone into the psychological horror field of gaming and stories, I without a doubt recommend this game for you. You won't be disappointed.

Incredible.

There was not a moment playing this game that I did not enjoy; everything about this experience was absolutely breathtaking. To anyone considering picking up this gem of a game: do it. You will not regret it.

At first, admittedly, I found the gameplay slightly aggravating as controlling the character with mouse strokes was not something I'd been accustomed to in past games. However, after the first hour or so, it becomes natural and the gameplay truly beings to take form from there. The story, on the other hand, is simply incredible, and honestly the highlight of this game by far. Every little detail the game packs within its $15 frame is enjoyable to uncover and gives the player insight to the bigger picture as the game progresses. This, in my opinion, is an incredible way to deliver a well-crafted story to an audience, and this game does it with an excellence I've seen nowhere else.

Aside from that, I have nothing else to say about this game other than that it's simply amazing. I recommend to everyone interested in puzzle games and fantastic stories to try it for themselves.

50/10
