I run with my pack, enjoying the feeling of the wind through my fur
There is nothing like this feeling of absolute freedom
We howl, singing our joy to the world
Nothing compares to running with my pack mates
The pack that I have grown up in is the one my unborn pups will grow up in

There’s a sound in the air that sends a chill through my body
It is not a sound of nature so that means it can only be something of the humans
My pack and I run faster, Alpha looking back behind him and urging us onward
Faster, faster, faster he urges us away from the human thing
My swollen stomach seems to tighten from fear

Something whistles past my ear and lands in the snow in front of me
I run, swerving around trees, rocks, the forest, my home
I feel a prick of pain that multiplies and spreads throughout my body
I fall face first in the snow, howling as I go down, my pack running on and on
More pain spreads, I see my belly blossom red like wild roses with blood

My pups, my precious, sweet unborn little pups
Gone, never to have had even a small taste of the world or pack life
The pain is so intense it numbs my body and I lay in the snow
I see a tall figure walking towards me, a fire stick in its hand
I am going to die and I never even had a chance
