Bit of a late update, but this game is now playable and more importantly, enjoyable. Kudos for fixing the game albiet after a very long time. Also significantly more enjoyable with mods from the workshop (or nexus). Highly recommended that you browse through mods and get those that interests you (especially cosmetic addon mods)

In light of Bestheda's paid mods (aka "Creation Club")...... sigh. Here we go again.

Brief history on mods
A little history on modding. Mods for games can be traced as far back as the early 80’s with a total conversion called Castle Smurfenstein being widely considered the first. This mod was a parody of Castle Wolfenstien. This juxtaposition of pop cultural artefacts continued throughout modding history however it wasn’t untill nearly a decade later that the modding community would gain real momentum. Doom 1993 exploded into the gaming scene in the early 90’s and like Wolfenstein 3D and Duke Nukem became one of the most prominent first person shooters of the decade. What id Software soon noticed was the community of gamers generating new content and tools that would extend the lifespan of the game, even resulting in the retail release of Final Doom, a package containing two amateur built missions. And that was the idea of mods back in the day, they parodied the games they were based on or they made add new levels and personalized lore to the game. More importantly, they were free and they were made by people who wanted their ideas to be realized. They were driven by their desire to create something and share it, not for money.

The relationship between game developers and modders has (perhaps HAD given Bestheda's and Valve disgusting attempts at changing this) always been one of good will. This began early on with id Software and Apogee only asking modders to create content for the commercial release of games and not the freeware versions. Not only did most abide by this but often modders would create mods that would only work on registered versions. This self-policing would become the foundation of modding culture as it allows software companies to be commercially successful and able to provide modding tools and affordances. Gamers were and generally are happy to "pay their dues" to developers like id and Apogee for the freedom to mix things up.

What does this mean?
Because money isn't the heart of modding, everything was and should be relatively free for all . You could use mod A and put it into a huge compilation mod, just needing to ask for permission and/or give credit where its due. With that, we get utterly amazing mods such as S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat MISERY and Doom 2's Alien total conversion. Mods, regardless if they are considered amazing or otherwise, are made by people who were passionate enough to take the effort to add a fully realized personal touch to the games they love . These people aren't driven by ulterior motives (such as money) but rather intrinsic ones (e.g passion). Often enough, frequent and big modders gives you an option to donate to them be it nexus or patreon.

Bringing in paid mods into this utterly kills the this spirit because it changes the driving reason for modding from largely intrinsic reasons (e.g passion) to extrinsic ones (e.g money). Most people will rush to defend their respective IPs and demand a cut for their assets to be part of something. It creates a frenzy and soon enough most people wont want to release something for free openly lest someone steals it and/or thinking that this could make some quick money on the "creation club" however miniscule the amount may be.

In hindsight
This is just Bestheda wanting free money for doing nothing. The Creation Club isn't "For the modders" as they say, you'd have to be stupid to believe them. They take such a huge chunk that modders would have to sell thousands upon thousands copy to make it worth while. If it was "for the modders" as Bestheda puts it, why do they get a significantly large portion of the cost? Think about it before you support paid mods. This is no different than Valve's misguided attempts at paid mods 2 years before. It just went from Valve + Bestheda taking the lion's share leaving bread crumbs for the actual modder to just Bestheda taking the lion's share while leaving peas for the modder. I do not support Bestheda or Valve's idea of paid mods not because I don't believe modders should be allowed to make some money for their work, but because I believe that at its core, mods should be made with passion and love for the games they're based on , not for the money they may bring.

Sorry but personally I can't recommend this game. Head bobbing, horrible mouse input, weak gunplay (in comparison, Half Life, Unreal and COD2 had far superior gunplay) and motion blur that I can't be bothered to go to the files and edit it out. Sorry but this is a no for me.

On the plus side, the physics of the game isn't as wonky as people set to make it to be. Pretty decent physics for its age.

Early Access Review
Why do people think microtransaction is a good ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ idea? Did Tripwire not take lessons from Overkill? If it was solely cosmetic, i guess i can still look past that, but if they were planning to add exclusive weapons in these box, then they're actually doing a worse job than Overkill. Because while they say if one person owns the weapon in a game server (when it appears under shared content), they are relying on a flawed system that works only if they think nearly every player do what they think players would do just because they thought about it.

Take for example the zweihander sword. I don't know about Americas and Europe, but in SEA the sword is hardly avaliable. Additionally, as time passes by and more and more of these "box exclusive" weapons start propping out, the flaws of the system begin to show as a large number of weapons will be locked behind a randomized paywall. I could go on about why this is a bad idea, but people such as Jim Sterling, AlphaOmegaSin, Boogie, TB and whatnot have already did a far more eloquent job than i could.

This recommendation stands until they change their decision and remove microtransaction or at the very least make it open ONLY cosmetic items.

EDIT: MICROTRANSACTIONS ARE HERE BOIS. Tripwire be like loadsamoney ft. Harry Enfield

EDIT1: its April of 2016 and Killing Floor 2 STILL isn't out of "early access". ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ glad i stop playing this before I get as disappointed as I was with Payday 2. Tripwire is sure tripping over their loyal "old guard" customers like they're sheeps to slaughter. Even World War 1 frontline cannon fodders were given more respect.

EDIT2: Definately digging the new steam review system in place. Now people can see the scum of the game that is KF2, hiding behind all those early positive reviews to give it that "positive" cap that can misguide players buying into something they don't actually like. Also, its STILL isn't out of Early Access (heh, EA for you). Also, apparently there's PVP ♥♥♥♥♥♥ lmao. No surprise. Have more Harry Enfield.

Fix your ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ map bug and i'll give this a recommended. Other than that, DO NOT GET THIS GAME. THE GAME IS DAMN NEAR UNPLAYABLE WITH NO BEING ABLE TO USE THE MAP. The map randomly fails after a while. It's been 4 hours of gameplay, randomly driving around and doing stuff. Still to no avail. I have tried to force the game to go into cutscene mode via doing quest, storing fuel, visting griffa and such but no dice. Apparently this helps some people but not always. And the bug will return anyway regardless.

In short, FIX YOUR ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ GAME WB

EDIT: They've finally fixed most of the game breaking bugs. The recommendation is updated to reflect the positive change that finally made the game playable and acceptable. Definately worth a try now or wait for sales. Good game with a suprisingly well crafted story.

Disgusting. I loved Payday 2 (and still do), but after seeing the insane amount of DLC they've been churning out, I stopped playing actively since mid of last year (still play occassionally sometimes). Last DLC i ever bought was Gage historical pack and it wasn't even because the weapons/stuff was good, it was because i felt that without it, my game would be incomplete and as such i do not have "the full experience". But money doesn't come easy, especially as of late. With the world's economy going down especially among ASEAN countries, most of us here simply can't afford to throw that much money so often.

Hell, if they really had to put microtransactions, why can't the drills be bought with real money OR offshore account cash? I know there are lots of hackers (and offshore account hackers) in Payday 2 who are free to hack without fear of getting banned, but if thats the case, why not just get a grip and start actively moderating your game (looking at you Overjews) like you're supposed to anyway and not slacking by being lazy.

Seeing as how things are as of late with microtransactions (its funny how people were fooled into grinding objectives only to be rewarded with microtransactions LEL), I'm extremely glad I'm not into Payday as much as I was (As Epictetus said, if I have already forsee it coming, I wouldn't feel as much pain as I would have without forseeing) and this is just the final nail in the coffin. Deleted this useless game. I have better things to play from developers who aren't all about sucking players dry. But what they are doing, technically isn't illegal, just being a massive prick and, as my friend often calls them for their money orientated ideals, Overjews.

Also can't wait for Fallout 4, so there's that. #OVERJEWS

EDIT: In the mean time for those of you wanting to play something similar, I'd recommend Killing Floor 2 (its in Early Access till year end though) or Warhammer: End Times - Vermintide. They're way better, don't have any DLC of sort, no microtransactions, actually fun and filled with decent AI (yes, even KF2 AI are smart enough to try and flank you).

EDIT2: I DO NOT recommend Killing Floor 2 anymore. They've taken the same path as Overkill and are having microtransactions for the game with exclusive weapons (besides cosmestics). This is actually worse than Overkill because:
1. Killing floor 2 isn't even out of Early Access
2. The game until now is still super bare (7 months just for 2 perks and a few maps? really?)
3. Microtransaction in an Early Access game. Even Overkill had the decency to wait until it was long out of Early Access.

I still however recommend Warhammer: End Times Vermintide as a viable alternative or Killing Floor 1.

For the longest time, no video game could ever scare the ♥♥♥♥ out of me as amnesia did. The last time i crapped so badly was playing fatal frame. Even Silent Hill series isn't as scary because you always knew that you could kill whatever horror that's after you somehow. In Amnesia, you just can't because you're just a helpless human. Exactly what every horror game should be. Every corner is as chilling as the previous. Get ready for some hair raising gameplay.

Tips on improving pants soiling :
1. Play it after midnight in the dark
2. Use a huge screen
3. Headsets
4. Alone while playing (preferally alone in at place of residence)
5. If you have a cat, put it in the room.
6. Light a candle and place it next to the screen.

Impressive graphics for its age and something totally new. This is what BRINK parkour system should've been. Totally fluid movement and for one, running away from a fight is way way more entertaining. The gunfight and fistfights are dull, but its not like you'll be needing them anyway. Sweet story telling. Worth your every buck. Especially during sales.

The game feels like a beta for Team Fortress 2. Despite that, still great to play. Though the community may be thining out slowly, you might wanna think twice before buying this (unless you're an avid Valve fan)

Simple, tactical and fun. Amazingly well crafted for an indie game.
