It's not hard to get lost in the deep subterranean world of Hollow Knight. And I mean that in more ways than one. The expansive catacombs of Hollownest have countless paths to explore and secrets to find and more than that its rich with lore, history and purpose that drew me into a 2D Metroidvania kingdom I wanted to explore every inch of. The more I played the more I was surprised at just how much content and freedom this game has to offer in basically any direction there are bosses to fight upgrades to collect and secrets to uncover. But whats truly captivating about exploring this long kingdom is its atmosphere gorges art beautiful music and a million little details combine to give each area of the map a distinct sense of place. The lunch and humid greenpath feels vastly different than the cold dark caves in the forgotten crossroads and they still feel like a part of a cohesive world. Hollownest capital city the city of tears is a metropolis in a huge cave where it is always raining. I genuinely love it´s a ashamedly hard game that dose a great job of silently teaching you how to play. Your path and options are gated by things like ledges that are to high to reach or gaps that are to far to jump until you find the necessary upgrades like a dash or a wall climb but there are enough options that don't result in dead ends to keep you exploring for quit a while. I love this game and recommend it to anyone that likes calm but full with action singleplayer adventure games. And it will always be my favorite 2D game.
