Imagine if you had your standard average soulslike game, you added one very unique and cool mechanic to it, and then you took the worst aspects of every game in the soulsborn franchise and added them all to this game and made them worse somehow, that's lords of the fallen.

Loved DS1's multiplayer system where trying to summon a friend is like winning the lottery? Brought that back, Same PVP DS1 had as well.

Loved having random respawning trash mobs that are stronger then bosses from DS2? Well good news because they liked that concept as well, so they added quite a few of them every 5 minutes. Because who doesnt love fighting miniboss level enemies that take 30 hits to kill and can do 75% of your health in one hit that drop nothing and will respawn.

Loved 20 minutes of gameplay without a bonfire? Well you're really going to enjoy they implemented that feature as well.

Huge fan of the jump puzzles from every souls game in which either you're pixel perfect with your jump or you die? Well this game has that to, except now they arent optional and your character will now roll after you land the jump about 10 feet forward often throwing you right off the platform you landed on.

Loved long walks back to bosses after dying? Got that to, and even though they implemented a solution it for some reason costs a consumable item to activate and i actually cannot think of a single reason why it would be done like that besides to inconvienience the player.

Big fan of the "You died" screen? This game doesn't say that, but instead it takes 15 seconds after you die for the game to finally allow you to go to the loading screen and start reloading the area.

Loved the capra demon from DS1 where the only challenge was killing the dogs? You'll really love the second boss of this game where they made the capra demon ranged and quite a bit more then 2 dogs, oh and they take about 8 hits to kill and do half your health if they hit you a single time.

Love Boss fights essentially requiring you to die because the boss has an attack that kills you in 1 hit and the only way to dodge it is by knowing its coming like waterfowl dance from elden ring? Yep plenty of that as well.

Loved having to run through respawned trash mobs in order to get to the boss door again? That feature is here too, except the trash mobs will literally never stop chasing you until you either kill them or die.

Loved random enemies taking your souls and requiring you to kill them to get them back like in bloodborn? You'll sure love it here when they go to the enemy that actually killed you, and that enemy can be a ranged enemy in a location you literally cannot get to and you lose all your souls as result.

Loved dodging spell casters and arrows, Got that too except there is seemingly no range limit on magic in this game for npcs, and since they never de-aggro they will shoot homing magic across the entire map that will deal half your health.

Loved jarring difficulty leaps in mob strength? Its even better here because now when you go the wrong way and aggro them, you just have to die because they will follow you forever. Oh and if they kill you they take your souls, and good luck getting them back when you're doing 1/80th of their health and them even lightly breathing on you will kill you from full health.

Mediocre souls game, horrible port.

Can't seem to get the game to run steadily over 30 fps. When im running at 30 fps, it can easily maintain the 30 and never drop, But when i set it to 60 fps max, it will randomly and constantly spike between 10-50 for no clear reason. Im able to get 60 fps at ultra settings in other current games, just not this one. Game also tends to crash when stating missions randomly.

The button mapping is hilarious though, default xbox button mapping for a ps4 exclusive (as in it has A B X Y instad of X Square Circle Triangle)

Unforunately, if you arent a fan of souls games, you probably wont like this one, as the difficulty scaling is atrocious. Most every boss and enemy will kill you in 1 combo, and most boss/enemy attacks are 4-5 hit combos. The standard human samurais in the first mission kill you in 2 hits.
My first playthrough was as a light armor katana user, geting hit one time was typically fatal.
My second playthrough was as a medium armor spear user (the stat that raises HP is the stat that the spear uses for damage, so it was my highest stat) and i still die in one hit.

You are able to block mid combo, but if you try that against a boss, he will just guard break you from full ki to zero, and then instantly kill you anyways. So you end up in a situation where you either dont block, and die in 2 hits, or you do block and die in 3 hits.

Towards the end of each region you start to become the power level which you would expect to be at the start of the region (the standard weak enemies cant kill you in 2 hits) and you start to be able to kill enemies in 5 hits. Then you go to the next region, and its straight back to getting 2 shot by everything, and the weakest enemies taking 8 hits to kill, and its unbelieavably frustrating.

On my medium armor run with health being the highest stat: All grab attacks were an instant kill from full health, Geting ki broke by any enemy in the game was an instant kill from full health if they use a final blow (essentially a backstab attack), Getting hit by any boss attack typically leads into being killed either instantly by the first attack, or just killed by the rest of the combo you cant avoid anymore, Getting any slowing status effects applied on you typically leads to being killed, as they are extremely effective and essentially render you unable to reasonably dodge anymore, getting shot by a flame arrow, or bullet from standard enemies typically did half my health, hand cannons do about 90% and knock you down, so if you're fighting someone and you get cannoned your dead. All human boss enemies are impossible to ki break unless they drain their ki by trying to attack you, but most of them have the same abilities you would if you were using their respective weapon, except theirs are uninteruptable and wil kill you in one shot, or ki break you instantly, leading into an instant kill grapple.

This game is unbelievably punishing for the smallest of mistakes, or bad luck, You can get a boss down to 5% health without using a single healing item, then get hit by anything he does and you'll die instantly. A great example of this is a boss which has an attack that shoots 5 waves of 3 ice bolts in very quick succession. If you get hit by a single one of them, you're going to die. It stuns you assuming it doesnt just instantly kill you, so you cant keep rolling, so your only option is to block, which will then get immediately broken by the next bolt, essentially killing you.

The deaths in this game feel extremely cheap in comparison to dark souls, you get hit by the weakest attack the boss has, and it will just result in your death
