Core gameplay revolves around wasting hours making trivial progress and dying to the same causes over and over. And no, don't get me wrong - you can learn from your mistakes and know how to prevent that cause again. But the loot required to do so just won't be there, ever. 90% of the cool mechanics in the game will never be seen by 99% of the players, because they require too many items, for too little progress, where you can die and lose it all in a split second to a bug, sniper, or even a game update itself. The potential is here - but they've absolutely squandered it by apparently never play-testing after 8 years in development.
