This is kinda dumb, tbh.

Mechanics are confusing and annoying, and its honestly just a really pretty cash grab, in my opinion.

Update (2/26/2020, ~2:22 am, GMT-7):

Yep, exactly the same. Buggy, horrible UI, and the general feel personally just aint my cup of tea, and, while there are people who like it, I don't understand these people and would like to avoid them tbh. It doesn't feel like I'M doing anything. I just... click a button... it plays an animation... and i get numbers added to my little database or whatever. Which sure. Thats a video game. But other games?

Take Reign of Kings, for example. Its a buggy mess, too, its straight up abandoned by the developers, and honestly, it's worse off as a "full release" than it was as Early Access. Yet its more fun, its more immersive, and its just generally *better* than this digital chore-list of a game. Why? Reign of Kings FEELS like its YOU doing it. You press the button, your character swings the ax, you get some wood. You use the wood in the rather decent UI, i might add, to craft things and its WAAAAY easier AND better than this, again, digital chore-list.

While its pretty much the CONCENSUS (EDIT: I'd said "commonly held opinion and thus fact" and that made older me go "ohhh that's stinky") that Reign of Kings is kinda bad, the fact that even that dumpster fire of a game is more fun than this says quite a lot. The building of RoK, again, feels like YOURE building it, only in this case, that's cause you literally are. Its pretty, medieval Minecraft. Whereas this game? Its just pretty. Its good to walk around in the forest and it has pretty medieval music, even if it sounds suspiciously like the royalty free stock music you can find on YouTube. The meshes and textures are pretty decent and the lighting effects are chef's kiss. Visually, tbh, when i first bought LiF:YO back in Early Access days, it was absolutely stunning, and honestly I'd say it still is today, compared to today's games.

But they even managed the bugger that one right on up as well. It is so rare that I see ANY animal whatsoever. ANYWHERE. I have a total time played of this game of around 16 hours. Y'know how many animals I've seen? One. A single elk, roaming around in the woods, scaring the heck out of me at night cause i couldn't see it and my fire went out and the lighting and shadows are really good so i couldn't see jack except the leaves rustling against the backdrop of the night sky. I thought it was a boar or something, and I didn't have a weapon, leave me alone. But anyways, a single animal. The whole time. I haven't died to anything but drowning the entire time I've played. I thought i saw a bear once. But when i got closer, it was just a rock. Hell, theres not even little birds flyin around as, like, an animated gif slapped on the sky or something. The entirety of this game can be summed up by the feeling that imparts on me, the player: Lonely. The world is empty. Even with other players and all, its just... empty. There's NOTHING to do.

Oh boy oh gosh i built a base oowhee.... now what? Well you can like... farm and stuff i guess. Interact with other players. Even roleplay, i guess. But... its just not fun. You build the biggest castle on the server and that was literally just a boring, tedious chore considering YOU DONT EVEN GET TO BUILD IT YOURSELF. IT DOES IT FOR YOU.

I've lost my train of thought rambling about the lack of animals, cause thats really gotten to me. It feels so isolated. If there were more animals roaming around, then it wouldn't be bad AT ALL. I'd RECOMMEND this game, despite all the problems i have with it. I wanna look at pretty birdies and deer and boars and rabbits and stuff. There no CHALLENGE in the current state of the game, other than trying not to go insane while you try to figure out how the f*ck you make a campfire in the first THREE HOURS of playing.

Oh, and combat is just stupid as heck. It makes no sense tbh. Like sure, just get good, but like... its just stupid. Its WAY too complicated to have "skill trees" and "combos", just KILLING someone should give me bragging rights tbh. I joined a server once, got in a fight with some dude with some kind of longsword. I had a stick, basically. It was a stalemate cause neither of us could freaking FIGURE IT OUT. And THAT guy had played WAY more than me. HE actually LIKES the game, and therefor Id like to avoid that guy, as previously stated.

TLDR;
Its complicated. Its not good. Its not FUN. Its not worth the money i paid for it, and i feel robbed. I got a really pretty chore that takes up about five gigabytes. Oh boy. I'm so excited to not play this game and go play Reign of Kings instead, a vastly superior smattering of code that comes out to a steaming ball of hot trash. But at least i can play catch with that hot trash-ball. Its more fun than NOTHING.

Its not even worth free. Considering its literally a chore that lacks any sort of reward, my suggested price for this game is -12 USD per hour of play. They should pay YOU a wage to play this game. Californian Minimum Wage, i might add.

Edit: Im older now. The only thing i changed in this review was one stinky opinion i used to have. Everything else? I f*ckin' nailed it. Like, honestly, this game SUCKS. Its really bad. Go play Kingdom Come: Deliverance. Its infinitely better.
