COMPLETELY SPOILER FREE REVIEW( provided you do not hover over the spoiler tags I have placed and have completed 999 and VLR as i do bring up certain things)

As always do not look up anything about this game other than a spoiler free walkthrough. Spoiling the plot ruins the entire experience just like the previous two games.

Spike chunsoft does it again. When I completed 999 I did not expect VLR to be superior. When I completed VLR I did not expect ZTD to be better and yet here we are. This series (especially with the events of this game) has single handedly taken my heart and made this series jump to my favorite story of time. This story has it all from suspense to curiosity, to even love and friendship that exist and go deeper than one reality The cast that is spread throughout all three games feel like family. They feel real and some of them will always hold a place in my heart.
ZTD in a way is a big love letter to the fans with the way the" true ending" is handled. It is extremely bittersweet though with the way Shifting works and how each timeline still actually does exist so only the one group gets to walk away unscathed and not dead but at least they can work towards a brighter future where Sigma and Akane do not host the A/B game that occurs in VLR and Phi gets to not only learn about her true parents but they are both alive and well and they can all be a family together even with delta involved should they choose so
Graphically it is the best in the series of course being the one title that isn a handheld port. The artstyle is interesting as characters like Akane and Junpei are difficult to recognize but then others like Sigma and Phi look even better than their previous models. The puzzles get even more difficult and the gameplay is extremely disorientating but that is by design of course the memories are supposed to be non linear. I also give them massive props for handling the entire overarching story without serious plot holes. Everything is designed to be a loop in terms of the story of Sigma and Phi and even Akane and Junpei. They even foreshadowed the events of the true ending in the ending of VLR with how a character told Sigma inside of Kyle's body that the events of VLR do work it just happens in a different timeline and that they cannot tell Sigma how and why because it would break the cycle and then that reality would cease to exist.
On top of that this game explores and reveals the connection between Sigma and Phi and we finally learn the truth between them Which is that Sigma and Diana (yes the Diana that Sigma lived with for 3 years in the original timeline and would eventually model Luna after) in another reality during the events of ZTD would be trapped after Akane wins and for basically almost a year were together alone and would develop feelings for each other and lead to the birth of a pair of twins. One of the twins being Phi the other being Delta ( Zero in ZTD and also Q). They would end up getting sent to the past as unfortunately they have ran out of food and basically starved to death. Delta would grow up and then proceed to ensure him and his sister would be born with their specific powers by becoming zero and causing the events of ZTD to not only have that happen but to produce a reality where everyone lives with the knowledge of ZTD so that they have the fuel to prevent the messed up future we see in VLR
At first I was angry at Zero because why would you do these things especially to Your mother , father and sister. But had he not then Phi nor him would exist and the bittersweet true ending future would not come to fruition And so my anger left my mind and was filled with much sadness as it was a necessary evil. Would you not do the same so that you too Could even exist ? or even produce a future with a fighting chance. Theres even a possibility of you now living with your family that could never be. I only wished zero had a system in place or something that would give food to that reality of sigma and diana where they had kids so after they used the machines they would not starve or let them leave at the least
This game does one important thing as well. I thought this series was the story of Junpei and Akane but no. This is the story of Sigma Klim and his never ending struggle to save the world. I do not expect a game to ever touch me again like this one did and frankly im okay with that. This is a beautiful and tragic story that deserves to be known and its criminal that its not as well known I can only hope one day it gets its reconition perhaps through films or shows so that it can become mainstream but I do really feel this story can humble many people it has no doubt changed the way I view things and for the better. i implore any real gamer to play this series especially if you are a fan of visual novels, puzzles or loved something like danganronpa.
