This is a review coming from someone who has been following updates for the game since Chapter 1! So I will not be complaining about walk speed like all the other negative reviews.
The three trailers looked really great as the release of the last chapter approaches. Gave the impression it would be longer than Chapter 2. After seeing that the game was finally on the store I bought it. But was unfortunately not wowed by how the third Chapter played out. The cosmetic features like filters and backgrounds are nice and all but I prefer keeping visuals just original so they didn’t affect my thoughts on this collection.
I’ve played the demos for Chapter 2 and 3 so if any fan reading this haven’t played those I recommend them since they’re very different from the final version in the trilogy, so I like them as a stand alone game for those differences if you enjoy this series. If they’re still available in the creators itchio that is.
I’ll now be explaining why Chapter 3, the finale of the story, disappointed me so I’ll keep any story spoilers hidden;
The starting areas too explore has memes and media references. That kinda threw off the atmosphere of the game of what little there is for it considering the simple art style. And there weren’t much of that in the previous chapters. So it stuck out like a sore thumb to see like a loss.jpg somewhere. Memes stop showing up after that thankfully. Memes age quick or they stick out, so If you want to add a reference it should at least fit the timeline as this is the 1980’s.
The apartment area like from the Ch 3 demo is great, the part of having to use the camera flash as a sole light was great atmosphere for that section. From then on, there weren’t any more unique gameplay features or puzzles specifically for the horror. There was a lot more rotoscoped cutscenes. But I really wished there was more unique gameplay for specific sections of the game. The area where John was frankly in red hell was the least scariest somehow.
No feeling of danger or not knowing what’s out there, no enemies to keep a look for, just avoid, and no darkness like the other areas before and after this section. There weren’t many parts where I go “huh? O-Oh o_o” like Ch 2 had like with the scary long letter reading bit or suddenly being lost somewhere else. The apartment area of the demo/Ch 3 filled that but the rest of the Chapter really didn’t have more of that. The final area where John literally just needs to drop a sign onto a seal to stop demons from coming through anymore was.. kinda lame… Like really? that’s the way to end all things? And the “Reign of spiders!” attack from the final boss is silly to me. I love spiders <3 It sounds like I’m making this silly but if that’s the impression i’m feeling then that shows how little of a horror vibe Chapter 3 was able to give. The school house section was very very short, the red hell section was plain, the letters you find in hell were very silly being all “Congratulations!”, the second death section was pretty good but enemies were slow so there weren’t much of a feeling of danger when doing the task.
Just felt like it had less ideas and creativity to give anymore.
If the creator had put up this Third chapter as a standalone in the itchio I would prefer and recommend buying that than this final work.

These are the best character designs I've seen in ages. There isn't one I don't find interesting. Men with eyelashes is the best quality. Yeehaw, some say a game for the gays. Dr. Habit says Trans Rights.
