Well, it’s certainly shaped like a game. To be fair, it is a complete JRPG. But my issue with Hylics 2 is that it’s all style. I love the oddball artwork, the bizarre themes, the vinyl catsuit, and the absurd characters -- but the UI is awful. It’s not confusing because of the surreal visuals, but because it’s genuinely difficult to navigate and interact with the world. That feels less like a stylistic choice and more like neglect. On top of that, the game is aimless; you can wander the same small area for hours without finding anything to progress the plot. And while the art style is striking, it doesn’t hold up strongly enough to carry the whole experience, at least not for me. That said, I would probably buy a Hylics 3 if it looked a bit more like it had a human user-centered interface.
