JRPG style Roleplaying done with a very western comic book flair, and done very well.

I was amazed that this game could carry over the comic book aesthetic of it's source material into a video game so well. While I admittedly knew nothing of the comics before playing, this game made me want to go out and read them and learn more about the vibrant characters and world that the game is set in. Further, while no knowledge is needed from the comics to enjoy the game, I'm told that the two are set at different times so there's also no need to worry about spoilers, which is nice.

The gameplay is smooth and the combats are handled well, with only a few hiccups when it comes to the power curve in the game. One of the truly interesting things is how the characters and their powers play off each other. What one person might consider 'the best group' may be someone elses worst. Or may not even be good in certain situations. It encourages exploration of the roles. Unfortunately this brings to light the biggest flaw in the game. Each character earns exp individually and independantly. Don't use a guy for a dungeon or two? Have fun grinding to get his exp up to everyone else's level. Trust me, this also offsets the other problem in the game. One or two levels makes a huge difference. Especially as the gear is often 'teired' every 3 levels or so. Going into a dungeon where you're a level below, and your gear is maybe 4-6 levels below is just not going to work out very well for you. But this can be fixed with grinding and is really the only major downside to the game in my opinion. The music is top notch as are the sound effects and the voice acting. Overall, as a fan of RPG games I highly reccomend this one.

Pros:
- beautiful game on every level
- solid game play and combat
- interesting characters / story
- deep game play through
- interesting crafting system that feels optional but powerful
- lots of little secrets to increase replayability of dungeons

Cons:
- Party doesn't share EXP, leading to VAST gulfs in experience levels
- Can be very grindy to get characters to the required power for next dungeon
- Resources (gold, crafting, loot, etc) feels very sparse, which again can lead to grindyness

I highly suggest this game is worth your money if you like RPGs and don't mind a bit of a grind at times through already cleared content. You won't regret it.
