Just not ready yet

I am so ready to absolutely love this game. I played so much Descent in my teens, and it was absolutely a ground breaking game for it's time. I'm hoping that Descent Underground prooves to be a spiritual successor worthy of that name. But right now, as of the early access build that I have, it's just not ready. Currently the only game mode I've been able to try out is a deathmatch mode vs bots. I suppose there's a multiplayer aspect, but after sitting in a queue waiting for a game for several minutes without getting a game, I bailed out on that.

The campaign mode isn't finished, and I'll re-examine this game when it is. But currently the main reason to buy into the early access is on the strength of what they have. What they have is great, don't get me wrong. The game play is smooth and the graphics look great. But there's just not enough there to be able to reccomend this game right now.

So if you're looking at this review, and you want to support the developers, go ahead and grab it. Just don't expect much of a game at this stage.

New build is coming today with Co-op vs AI, and 2 more ships, a cockpit, and some enhancements - more next week.

@Bluedragon992 - did you read my review? I reviewed what the game is in it's current state. I think it has a lot of potential, but in it's current state I wouldn't reccomend this game for the average player. I'm sorry you disagree, but that's my opinion.

Furthermore, I'm PERSONALLY looking forwards to this game continuing to develop and am more than willing to change my reccomendation status if it does progress.

I don't know what else you want from a review honestly. Plenty of reviews are just like "ths game sux dont by it" type of trash that come with a 'not recommended' tag. If you look at my written reviews I've reviewed plenty of early access reviews, but as I said in my review here for this game if "you want to support the developers, go ahead and grab it."

But the game is, in my opinion, unfinished and so early in it's development that the vast majority of players won't get much if anything out of it.

@spitfire, you have a point that my wording might be off. Maybe I should say "I was given a free copy of this game with the understanding that I would be giving it an honest and unbiased review" instead?

have you heard of the game Overload? it's a Descent successor made by the real Descent team, not these people, it just got kickstarted. still a ways off but it may interest you, check it out.

Co-op vs bots is next, along with survivor mode, then a Quality of life pass, and the Single player campaign - as a small team, doing it with the fans it just takes a bit of time.

I certainly will. Like I said, I plan on keeping a close eye on this game and based on what I've seen so far, anticipate that my review will change. It's more a factor of RIGHT NOW I can't reccomend this game for most players.
