I love the idea of this game, but the implementation leaves a lot to be desired. I can not recommend this game.

Cosmonautica does a lot of things right, unfortunately it does several critical things wrong. The humor, the graphics, the sound, the visuals are all spot on and to be admired. It's a fun game to get into. But once you do, and get a little bit into the game, the flaws begin to show through and severely limit your ability to play.

The biggest flaw I came across was a severe lack of balance and difficulty. This is a simple change that could be fixed with the addition of a difficulty slider. See, when you have a game where you trade for credits, that economic model needs to be spot on. Unfortunately even if you do everything 100% correct, the profit margins on trading are razor thin.

In two hours of play, making only positive trades, I barely was able to re-attain the amount of capital (20k credits) I started the game with as seed money. Another hour and a half later and I was still only around the 30k. Now on it's own, this might be acceptable for some. A game where you have to micromanage razor thin profit margins and grind out credits might be acceptable. But this was all while I was making perfect trades and always turning profit. If you take a loss, at any time, it's absolutely devastating. After 3.5 hours play I got stopped by a cop and had a 15% chance of getting caught. RNG came up and I got caught. This caused me to fail my current quest, which penalized me credits, lost all my cargo, and was banned from that world for 15 days. The effects of this were absolutely devastating to my game, knocking me down well below the 20k mark just to get to a new planet, refitted, and get a new hold of cargo. IE one random chance event, that could only happen 3 out of 20 times, and I'd lost around two hours of gameplay.

The further issue in the game is in the absolutely horrible combat system. You run out of ammo FAR too quickly, far more quickly than you can possibly take out even the weakest of pirates. Forget about harder difficulty ships, you don't stand a chance. Ramming doesn’t even work, because the AI can avoid you forever.

I think Cosmonautica has the potential for a good game, but it feels like an unfinished beta at this point. I would HIGHLY recommend against buying this game at the current state it's in. (v1.2)
