I couldn't even begin to guess how many (hundreds of) hours I spent playing, and replaying, and replaying, Star Control 2 back in the 90s. So I was cautiously excited when I heard about Star Control Origins. I bought in on it as soon as it was available in Early Access, but I promptly forgot about it since only Melee was available right away. I recently was reminded about it, and installed it.

LIFE CHANGED.

What stardock has done is a pure masterpiece. They took every single aspect of Star Control 2 that I loved, every aspect that made it such an amazing game, and brought it into a brand new game, new story, new races, new characters, and made it a beautiful game of 2018, not the early 90s. I was afraid that I'd miss the charming pixel graphics of SC2, but somehow, the amazing artwork and graphics in SC2 feel almost lovingly present in the current itteration. Planetary exploration is still a massive part of the game, and while it's different then the top down view of old 90s SC2, it feels good, responsive, and exciting.

I can't get over how much this game has sunk it's hooks into me, and how happy I am with what they've done creating this game. It feels like a love letter to one of the best games of all time, and similtaneously also a game in it's own right that can stand alone without any knowledge or experience of it's predecessors.

I can't reccomend this game highly enough and have been just blown away by it.
10/10
