Early Access Review
Easily the best ARPG on the market. Nothing comes close.

If you're expecting zachtronics, look elsewhere. Too easy, and the pseudo assembly language leaves little opportunity for creative approaches to problems. Would rate neutral if I could.

A 20 hour sequel to the second movie we never got. Fantastic power trip. Incredible attention to detail, both in recreation of the classic sets, and in combat mechanics too. This is a love letter to a franchise that has been let down too many times.

Outstanding. Huge opportunities for theorycrafting diverse builds. Tons of character choice that impacts the story immediately, and often long-term as well. Best played on hard/dominating difficulty.

Much like Caves of Qud, this game has restored my faith and interest in traditional roguelikes. Incredibly deep with astounding replay value. I expect to put a few thousand hours into this game.

Beautiful combination of deckbuilding roguelite and CRPG mechanics, without the annoying elements of each.

Ashen has some of the best elements of both dark souls and outward, with a fantastic art direction that outshines both. The lore isn't as deep as dark souls, and the sense of scale and character development doesn't really live up to outward. But the vertical, hand-crafted level design and progression systems are truly excellent. Even with the relatively simple "fetch this/kill that" questing, the sheer density of beautiful vistas and cinematic moments makes for an exhilarating experience.

The overall feeling this game instills in me is precisely what I hoped to find in Breath of the Wild. The souls mechanics could be thrown out, and this would still be a fantastic adventure.

Almost as good as YS: VIII, but the PC port is significantly better. All around better package, and looks fantastic on higher settings. Requires an RTX 3070 for 2k@144hz and max settings.
