This is one of the best games out there. It features a huge open world, tons of content, sharp combat mechanics, a cool story, and lots of things to do. It's really easy just to get lost in it while the hours drift away. I've been playing FPS games since the dawn of time and this is one of the best. It basically throws you on this island and lets you go about it on your own way. Regular missions are linear, but those turn out to be a small fraction of the run time. Everything else - taking over strongholds, completing side activities, hunting for doodads - lets you do it at your own pace. The game works as a combat shooter but definitely leans more towards the stealth side - there's more than a bit of Predator in the way you can sneak through the jungle and then quickly dispatch enemies. It's great.

If I had to make any complaint, it is that the leveling system isn't balanced at all - the game features two large islands but I had most of the upgrades before I even set foot in the second island. People who do a more thorough job of clearing out side missions would likely have them all even before that. There is a possibility this was intentional - the game just gets better the more tools one has at their disposal, and perhaps this was Ubisoft's way of rewarding thorough players. It is still noticeable, though.

In the end, this is just a minor quibble. On the whole, this game is amazing and a must-play for anyone who likes open world games or shooters.
