the best strand type game i've played

Good game but short, only around 5 hours. Could use some more padding

80% of my hours are just me standing in the middle of the town selling fish

It's like playing through an episode of Alex Jones' Infowars.

If you are looking for the spirtual successor to Terraria, this is not it.

Still a good game, but it just has a lot of little things that it does not do right. The game is not terrible and is definitely worth $15, but it is just missing a certain something that made me sink 1000 hours into Terraria and only 300+ into this. If you didn't like Terraria then you definitely won't like this.

It's up to you to buy it. People far more qualified than me have made more critical reviews of this.

In general, I feel like Starbound can't decide what it wants to be. A story driven adventure, a 2D exploration game with multiple environments, or a combat centered action game with platforming and destructable environments all mix together, and not too well. The story is, frankly, really bad, and lost my interest with the scanning missions. The exploration is the strongest point, but lacks variety from planet to planet. The combat is quite fun, especially since guns can destroy blocks, but it is missing depth and variety.

One of the big draw-ins of Starbound is its modability, something that I took part in. This is both a good and bad thing though. It is good because there are hundreds of community made mods that can fix certain parts of the game and make each individual experience unique. This falls apart when you realize how much mods are needed to make the game last longer. FU is a massive mod and overhaul that completely changes the game. It adds many things that I believe should have been in the base game, but now most likely never will be because a mod adds it. Whenever the game updates, there are sure to be many broken mods that need to be updated.

Multiplayer can become a hassle with mod conflicts, though for the most part it is functional. Definitely better than Terraria through Steam or Hamachi. Just prepare for teleporting teammates and enemies not taking damage.

Another strange thing is how poorly optimized this game is. I can run Metro 2033, Skyrim, F:NV, DXHR, Terraria, Minecraft, GTA:SA, and many other games with little to no framerate dips. This game tanks almost every time there is a massive shootout or a large number of destroyed blocks.

Overall, I would say give it a shot. I know I missed a lot of points in this review, but other people have probably said them.
