Don't purchase games from this developer unless you support shady business practices like revoking Steam keys years (6) after they've been legitimately sold.

Fun, chaos, and challenge, especially with friends!

I haven't reviewed much lately, but was guilt-tripped by the developer in the post-credits: recommended with caveats.

The Initiate has lots of atmosphere going for it, particularly in its voice work and environmental sound. It doesn't rely on cheap jump scares, and the puzzles thankfully lack moon logic. The infuriating parts can perhaps be blamed on the Unity engine, where getting stuck on uneven surfaces or bashed by doors is not uncommon, and neither is losing progress because completing a puzzle then something fails to trigger an in-game event or Steam achievement. Furthermore, there isn't enough payoff in the dual-endings to warrant a full replay, and if you neglect to save before initiating (c wut i did thar) the final puzzle, too bad, especially since there's only a single save slot.

One of the worst games I've played on Steam, simply based on the frustration [not challenge] factor. Most of the substantive criticism—key-finding, poor optimization, etc.—has already been explained in detail in top reviews. Avoid.

Early Access Review
*The developed provided me with a copy of this game to review*

I haven't played many roguelikes, but I have played quite a bit of the original The Binding of Isaac, and there are many similarities here. This one, however, somehow manages to pull off an even more amateurish vibe while remaining an entertaining bit of dungeon-mazing.
Not a lot of polish to be found in The Story Goes On, typos being the most irksome, and the difficulty isn't at a level to challenge a veteran gamer, so overall it seems Scarecrow Arts is appealing to a younger target audience, which is fine with me, but understandably a turn-off for others.
One hopes that the developers take full advantage of Early Access and community interaction to improve their game, and from what I've read it looks like this has been the case so far.
Finally, for the achievement fans like myself, there's a handful of luck-based ones, but overall it's a straightforward affair to completion.
