The endless progress you can make and place you can explore in Terraria gives it endless replay value. So, every little improvement you make to yourself feels natural and earned. The dev team is active and still producing updates today, and the graphical aesthetics and soundtrack perfectly harmonize with each other.

I've been sucked into this game time and time again on multiple different systems (often because of the replay value).

The gameplay isn't necessarily for everyone though; it has a slow start, steep learning curves that can put off some players (especially on expert mode, obviously), and the genre itself simply doesn't appeal to some (you should probably be able to figure out what side of this you're on from the update trailers alone).

If you enjoy games where you systematically exploit your environment to make yourself stronger, just to have your environment get stronger to match you, this game is a prime choice for you.
