Yes, the transmog system is actually as bad as you've heard. I wanna get that out of the way right now but even as a diehard player it barely scratches my enjoyment of this game.

Other than that though, the game is absolutely in a better spot than it was when Beyond Light launched. The dev team have clearly shown a more competent direction in the amount, quality, and reward structure of content, making huge strides to make the game FEEL like Destiny again. Much of this content is seasonal as well - no major expansion required to engage with the ongoing story of Destiny, and 10$ every 3 months to engage with this game is fair price imo.

This game definitely isn't free to play, but if the expansions ever go on sale, this is probably the best looter shooter out there. Try the game out for free - it's basically a playable demo - get a feel for it, and if it speaks to you, the expansions and seasons are just more of what you're trying - more weapons, more bad guys to shoot those weapons at, and more armor that stops you being shot at by the bad guys. It's a simple game on the surface that offers a surprising amount of potential for exploration, both in its story and lore as well as its gameplay and buildcraft potential. Worth a shot for sure.
