I played this game during early access back when it had the base bosses and no cutscenes. I've watched it grow to what is today and can say that I'm proud to have paid full price. The game is just all around great when it comes to the platforming design. Lets get into what I like and dislike about the game. (For a quick and rather lackluster summary, go to the bottom)

Soundtrack: I absolutely adore the soundtrack for this game, and can't help but sing along to each area's bgm when I play. The only problem I can think of when it comes to the soundtrack is the fact that there's not that many tracks. This is mostly because of the lack of different levels which I will get into now.

Level Design: Each tile set is dependent on the level you enter. There are two fire levels, two ice levels, to ?ruins? levels, and two sky levels. The final boss zones each have their own tile sets as well. Each tile set is randomly generated depending on what order they are on your advancement; an example being level one has simple traps and easy platforming while level eight has numerous traps and difficult platforming. The levels also get longer the further you make it in your run. The randomness is nice if you're a person who enjoys skill based platforming and never needing to memorize each level's layout. All together, there are about six different levels that each have their own random tilesets.

Gameplay: The game is very similar to the X series. There's wall sliding and wall jumping, and dashing as well. However, while the game plays like a Megaman game, it also pulls a similar item system from Binding of Issac. Instead of finding each item to unlock it, you have to get these in game collectible type currencies (called soul chips) that stay with you after death or completion of a run. You then use these things to buy new items and expand the upgrades you can get while progressing through each level. It takes time, and you'll probably end up dying many times before you beat a run, but once you get enough upgrades unlocked, you'll find that the game gets quite simple. It is also nice that it tells you what each item does before you pick it up, so you don't end up wasting your time or money. Speaking of money, there is also another type of currency that only appears in a run and does not travel with you after death or completion. This stuff (called nuts) is used for purchasing the upgrades that you've unlocked with the soul chips. You will end up getting a lot more of these because they only stay with you for each run.

Characters: Without the DLC, you have two playable characters; Ace and Nina. Nina is very similar to X when it comes to movement and combat. She uses an arm cannon that shoots lemons (hooray!) and a charge up that fires a nice big blast. She's much easier to use than Ace simply because she has ranged attacks. Ace is a lot like Zero in the fact that he uses melee weapons. They do more damage than Nina's weapons but put you at risk because of how close to each enemy it puts you. He is also unable to double jump so it effectively makes him just a close ranged version of Nina. The DLC characters are a bit strange. Hawk is based around using your abilities while draining energy from enemies to fuel them. Her drain ability is actually just her basic attack which is a close ranged whip, while a good number of her other abilities are longer ranged. Draco is also somewhat of a closer ranged character as well. He's more focused on dealing lots of damage while also being a bit more versitile in his abilities. All in all, Hawk and Draco are relatively similar and challenging to use, but they add a bit more diversity and playstyles than the base characters have to offer.

Dislikes: I don't have many dislikes for the game honestly. It does a very good job of feeling like a Megaman game while also incorporating other types of gameplay to spice things up and make it it's own game. I suppose if I did have to say some negatives about the game, they would be these: The game is heavily centered on having multiple runs to unlock every item and try to see how fast you can finish a run, but after you've gotten every item, or you've run through the game hundreds of times, there really isn't much to do. I suppose this is generally how most Megaman games go, in my opinion, but it just doesn't have much substance after you get everything. I guess it is something you can just come back to and do a few runs every now and again, but not something you'll sit down and play everyday even after getting all the items.
There isn't much of a story either. While they do have a few simple cutscenes and a little bit of story, it's nothing that you can really sink into. The game is really just all about getting items to make each run easier and faster. The characters are also a bit iffy. Nina and Ace are rather similar to each other and the only real difference being their main weapons. The DLC characters are also a bit bland as well, although they do have a bit more complexities to them. There are also not very many actual levels besides the four main ones and the two final boss levels which also means there aren't all that many songs.

In the end, I'm sure I missed a few things, but these are all the things I could come up with off the top of my head. I love the game and how it feels. The controls are tight and feel responsive and the levels are randomized so you won't play the same map every time. The soundtrack is also great even though there aren't that many songs. And the characters are fun to use, some more challenging than others although in the end still somewhat similar. I would deffinately recommend the game to anybody who likes the Megaman franchize and also like the randomness from Binding of Issac. Even then, I would still suggest giving it a try if you just simply like platformers because of the feel of it.
