DEATHLOOP is split into two game modes: Breaking the loop and Maintaining the loop.

Maintaining the loop puts you in the shoes of Julianna, the primary antagonist of the game. You're tasked with hunting down the main protagonist, Colt. It's essentially a PvP invasion gamemode, where you and all the NPCs on the map are to hunt him down and kill him. Colt has 3 lives. Julianna however, only has 1. This urges Julianna players to be smarter and use better forms of play.

Breaking the loop is the main campaign of DEATHLOOP. Your goal is to break the never-ending, 24 hour time loop that traps the island of Blackreef. To do this, you must kill 8 leaders/captains in a single day to break the loop. This is not a simple process however and requires time and knowledge. You must gather information on your enemies every time you live a day, whether those are allies, books, events of interest at certain times of day, weapons, abilities, etc.

DEATHLOOP is a game that I just couldn't bring myself to finish. For a game that is literally about repeating time, it doesn't fail to feel repetitive as Hell. The story is interesting at first, but enjoying the game fully requires you to invest in the lore around you via reading books, entries, etc. I did not feel invested after a few hours. The game feels like a repetitive gimmick.

The world isn't very big either. It's 4 different maps with with terrible AI to boot. There is no difficulty setting to alter damage or AI reception. The only real challenge that occasionally presents itself are the Julianna invasions you experience as Colt, which can honestly be pretty fun if you have a lot of loot at risk.

The game just doesn't feel very alive or fun. I don't have any motivation to break the loop. Maintaining the loop however can be quite entertaining.
