TL;DR: drop in a pod on an alien planet to fight the enemies of super humanity.

Helldivers 2 is a PVE Third person action game. Heavily inspired by Starship Troopers (the movie, less so the novel) you take control of a fragile but heavily armed space marine whose duty is to liberate the galaxy from communist androids, socialist bugs and maybe I dunno... wrong religion octopuses? That one is still yet to come alien cultists. Hit that nail in the head.

The entire game happens in a real time war, so you're always dropping on different fronts and doing different objectives depending on who super earth is fighting currently. You play with up to three friends and handle extremely overpowered weaponry against enemies that are very much not ready to deal with you. There are multiple difficulties, a huge amount of options on how to arm yourself, and content dropped seldom that expands on an already extensive game.

There's an ingame store to get new armor and new warbonds to get new weapons and stratagems, but you can purchase nearly everything with an ingame currency. There are time limited items but they're not really stronger than anything already available to anyone, and they're very few (3 or 4 among 100+ other things).

Overall, this is the most fun game I've played in 2024, going on 2025, and that I'm still playing. It scratches an itch I didn't even know I had. I wholeheartedly recommend it to everyone that likes action with friends.
