It's been a long time since I've been able to get into a game as much as this.

Somehow, they've managed to create an open-world game that feels both alive and dead – populated, yet desolate. I saw stalkers from different factions fighting each other and looting the bodies afterward. I can't think of many games that simulate this kind of behaviour, apart from the original Stalker trilogy.

At times, the atmosphere felt extremely tense – almost like a Tarkov raid. You'd find yourself counting the steps back to a friendly base just to catch your breath, only to load up and head back out to try your luck again.

I don’t do this often, but I listened to every piece of dialogue and read almost every note I came across. I loved the world-building; it gave the sense that everything was interconnected. The A-life system doesn’t seem quite as strong as in previous Stalker games, but it’s still far better than what most modern open-world titles offer.

I'd definitely recommend this to anyone interested in the genre – it's not your standard run-of-the-mill FPS.

Probably would wait for a patch if you don't have a beefy card but if you do, it's another banger of a game!

This was such a fantastic game from start to finish. I don't normally enjoy metroidvania style games because I tend to get lost and bored but with Nine Sols, I never felt that way.

The art style, OST, boss fights, combat, movement, and story were top tier. The final fight was insane and I have to admit, it had me in two minds whether I was actually going to complete the game. I did end up finishing the game with the not True Ending then beat it again with the True Ending. For me it rivals the difficulty of Isshin from Sekiro, and it was harder than the other bosses offered in the game, except maybe Ethereal.

If you're on the fence about this game I'd pick it up if you enjoy souls likes and have played some metroidvania's like Dead Cells, Laika and Hollow Knight.

It's hard to put into words, how I feel about PoE2 but I find myself trying to like this game more than actually liking it.

------

After finishing the acts, act 2 normal was what was wrong with the game for me. The tuning is off for the power you have access to. When I reached the cruel acts, it was much smoother. Almost all of the zones are too large and contain too many worthless dead ends. I was hit with the Cast On nerf, luckily I wasn't fully specced into it, but I still had to use all my gold to respec into something else. I do think it was ridiculous to brick many builds and not provide a free respec. They need to introduce cheaper passive skill refunds.

I've started on maps now and it doesn't feel great. Hunting rares in a massive zone whilst the movement is so slow. The atlas tree looks bland with percentage increases to random mechanics, a lot like the passive skill tree. I'm lacking in motivation to continue and I don't want to spend so much time in the acts again.

I still feel that if you have to buy EA to get the game, hold onto your money for now. Wait for balance patches and content updates.
