I feel like I have to write a review for this game as I am a huge fan of the first Risk of Rain. On a side note I'm extremely happy this game is doing well and getting the recognition it really deserves. I've not written many serious reviews so any feedback on how I could improve my review is always welcome. If I missed something perhaps. I'll be comparing a bit with Risk of Rain 1 since it IS this games prequel.

For a TL;DR of my thoughts this game is extremely dynamic, if you get tired of games quick then this game is perfect for you, because every run is different, there's things to collect but it's not to the degree that it's ridiculous. You'll have most of the games' items about 10 hours in if you're somewhat adept.

Out of 10 I rate it 9/10 and out of 100 I rate it 95/100. It's good ok

Now for the longer review.

If you've played the first game I'm sure you'll recognize the feeling of getting that one item you wanted just to then either die because it was in an awkward spot, or just surviving with barely any health to then go for 2 and a half hours.
It's stuff like that, that make the game so incredibly satisfying. The under-dog story if you will.

You start with nothing, slowly getting overrun by monsters, on an alien planet, hope slowly fading as killing things take longer and longer, they start taking your health off more and more. Then you get that one item, that just saves your run, and make the 30 mins you put in prior worth it. At this point you kill most things in a few hits and can't die. Then 2 hours later you die from a simple mistake like standing next to a boss while picking up an item.

I love this game for the record. I can't say this isn't biased. I've had many enjoyable nights with friends playing the first one.
The second one takes what made the first one good and improves on it, adding a whole other dimension to it, adding new items and adding ones from the first one.

They've added what seems to be a weekly or monthly trial called Prismatic trials. Where you're put on a leader board with all other players who completed it. Giving you a reason to come back now and then to try it out.

Some downsides would of course be not having everything when you buy the game, having to collect it, to some that would be a downside. To me it's a pro cause it gives me something to work for. Another con would be right now there aren't any modifiers like in the first game, where for example you could choose your own items to get. Also, since the game IS random and rogue-like there's no guarantee you'll get to do what you want.

To not make this review way too long I'll end it here and just say what I think.

I love this game, the world, the monsters and the music. The collectibles gives you something to try and go for which gives me a challenge. If you like rogue-likes like I do, then this game is a MUST HAVE.
