Much as I'd like to recommend this game, there's a lot of flaws that I feel like make getting into the game as a new player very difficult. The game is intended to become harder as you play through it, including character unlocks, as stronger characters tend to have worse unlocks, and harder objectives tend to have weaker ones, but it really depends. This game is definitely a "wiki game", as well. Updates locked behind DLC, given the changes made, repentance removing the native linux version, (not sure if this is still the case at the time of this review.) Afterbirth+ making the game harder, without really adding much on its own, I just... I can't in good faith recommend this to a new player. Not to mention, that with the fodder in item pools that gets added over time playing, super armor, item weighting etc. you're likely to be spending more and more time holding R to get a solid run, or ending up with little to no DPS (hence the item added in Repentance, R Key, even referencing this). The game is definitely a timesink, and one that may not be worthwhile compared to other options you have for the same price, particularly when including all the DLC.
