I like this game, i will continue to play it and i think most people who play it tons will
I have played both sides equally and reached the highest rank multiple times for killer and survivor so im not exclusively playing one side
I would never recommend this game to anyone though, ever, for a whole host of reasons that i will now get in to

First of all if you want any of the more fun stuff you need the DLCs which is fine, tons of games you need the DLCs in order to get the most of the game but this is different, its a game where certain perks are near necessary and not having them is a game changer. These can be perks for survivor that let you take an extra hit, escape the killers grasp or just get insane speeds after performing certain actions, for killer it could be something that extends the games and gets you a couple more kills or maybe all of them.

Next up is the fact getting these DLCs wont be enough, you need to grind DAYS of this game to get the perks on that character, once they are level 40 they become avaliable for other characters, congratulations now repeat that for all the other characters in the game until you get to the last one who will be the only character with them all on, it's simply not worth the time or effort.
You can also get a perk from the 'shrine of secrets' which is an ingame store using a currency you can earn but its so slow and there are 4 perks per week that are random, the best ones not showing up for almost a year or maybe even over a year at this point.

Learning this game is no small task, the sheer amount of perks you have to learn is obscene for someone who hasn't played much and then on top of that knowing the add-ons that a killer might have is sometimes just impossible to guess unless you play that killer yourself.
In this instance the survivors have it real bad, a less informed survivor will die super quick and drag the team down through no fault of their own really.
Killers have to find out what 4 perks each of the 4 survivors are running if they even can and then remember when they are chasing them, it can get exhausting for both sides to do this game after game.
Map knowledge is also huge, knowing vault locations, pallets, lockers and potential totem spawns really changes the game. New players may just never find certain totems and die to any perks relating to them as they just dont have the hundreds of hours of experience like everyone else who plays this now.

Moving on past the massive grind that this game is lets talk about the community.
I have played games all my life, spent thousands of hours on many different thing from league of legends to call of duty i have never seen anything even REMOTELY close to the sheer toxicity of the people who play this game.
Playing survivor you will get targeted by a killer every now and then and they will make sure you die and have no fun but surprisingly its the killer who gets it the worst. If you play killer then prepare for paragraphs of hate from people no matter how the game went and if your profile is open then that's gonna get filled with comments real quick.
It got so bad i had to turn off my comments just for this game and it's only survivors in my experience who post on your profile and only those in the highest tier of ranks, any below seem much more friendly and understanding strangely enough.

The balance of this game is like a fat kid sitting alone on a see-saw and every now and then he decides to jump to the other side.
The survivors have it easy in my opinion, escaping every game becomes so normal that you feel cheated when you die, thats where people get mad.
The true balance is 2 kills and 2 escapes but that is rare, its either 0/1 kill or 3 kills for the most part.
The reason behind this is that with standard builds the survivors will easily escape but maybe the killer gets mad and camps 1 person to death. The next is the killer brings an items that lets them instantly kill someone after their first hook or a stronger killer with their best add-ons that are consumable with the final person escaping through a hatch door that spawns either when 1 person is left or a set number of gens are done. They usually get it unless the killer 'slugs' to prevent it from opening and finds the last man before the other person bleeds out.
Here's the kicker, survivors can bring a key to open that hatch and let the team just leap in, items like this just ruin the game and as such depending on what the killers or survivors bring the game is basically set in stone from the lobby.
For killers there are also just some that you should pick, for example freddy is amazing and actually easy to get your coveted 2 kills with unlike someone who is actually fun like the pig (from saw) who is stressful to get even 1 kill as.

Overall the game is the same thing once you reach the high ranks. The same killers with the same perks going against the same survivors with the same perks, both of which get mad at eachother in the post-game arguing over nothing game after game.

While i do love playing this and will continue to do so i hope you can understand why i'd tell new players to stay away, this place is elitist hell and actively punishes anyone new which is sad because with some friends its honestly a fun game.
