So, I just finished this game with my gf. Holy moley, it was good.

Blacksad UtS can best be described as a diamond in the rough. The story is a typical noire hairboiled detective one, with shady characters, plot twists and more. I read a lot of Raymond Chandler, and this story could fit right in that alley. My gf and I had multiple moments were we discussed and speculated clues, sometimes guessing right, sometimes guessing wrong. Also, the antropomorphic nature of Blacksad also adds a nice twist, with smart use of certain animal stereotypes.

Pendulo studios also did a great job giving you the options to respond in many different ways to each scenario. You can shape your own 'detective Blacksad', either compasionate and good-willing, to a more somber and nihilistic one through dialogue options.

However, the game is a slow burn. The pace is very slow, with a lot of cutscenes and dialogue. It fits the hardboiled detective genre really well, it allowed me to speculate and think about clues I found or dialogue I just watched and relate them to the case before the game even suggested it through its novel clue system. But gamers with a low attention span, be warned. This game is slow.

I also encounter a few minor bugs. Sometimes the speech de-synced with the animations, and two times the game crashed when we failed a scene. Luckily this game has a really good auto-save system, as you can return to any scene you previously completed to re-try something, so it was not that big of a deal.

Overall, I highly recommend this game if you love noire / hardboiled detectives. I really enjoyed it and the story was insanely good. I hope that we will see a sequel!
