If you're a real OG and you dig Langrisser, you'll get a kick out of this game.

Pretty great AC game, much better than 5/VD in my opinion. In a lot of places it matches or exceeds 4/FA. I think the only shortcomings compared to 4/FA are the thrusters, lack of PA and stabilizers, and the soundtrack. AC6's sound track is good, but compared to FA it just falls short. I don't think I would say it's better, but, truth be told, I don't think it falls short either. It's a great sidegrade to those classics.

Other devs, take some notes

A lot of mixed feelings regarding the development process. Dev doesn't really listen to feedback, but the foundation here is absolutely solid. Here's hoping it goes well moving forward.

Shin Megami Tensei 3 should be renamed to Chin Begami Tensei 3, so it can more accurately represent itself when being discussed. This game is CBT.

I played this once as a kid and kinda disliked most of it. I couldn't wrap my head around it. 2 decades later I've come back to try it again. Turns out, I understand why I disliked it back then and why a good chunk of people hate it:


Mechanically speaking there is a lot of customization and optimization here. I hear a lot of people complain about the scaling system, I never had any trouble with it, but I also took the time to stock up on spells and make sure I had a good Guardian Force composition on my 3 primary characters. You can do a lot of prep work for your party and make them truly powerful, regardless of your current level. There are abilities to manipulate just about everything, for starters you can modify every stat on your character. Luck, speed, hit chance, strength, defense, status effect defense, and more. As far as enemies go, you can reduce their defenses, manipulate their AI, and even change their level (up or down!). This is not a plug-and-play Final Fantasy like 4 or 6 were. You have a plethora of tools at your disposal.

On the plot side of things, there are a lot of threads to keep track of. There are many characters, in different timelines, and your actions in them can have an effect. For example, picking up a certain magazine before going back in time will result in you have 1 less party member during that sequence. Not only that, but this game does not spoon feed you the story. There is a ton of dialogue, but also visual story beats, as well as things that are only implied. This has led to a lot of fan speculation and theorizing, and some of them hold a lot of weight. One of the game's directors commented on these fan theories, denying them, but also adding that he couldn't speak for the other writers on the team and their vision for the story. So much of the story is not simply just handed to you, you have to flex your brain and think about it.

I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ love this game, and it is a grand litmus test for the intelligence of a Final Fantasy fan.

I couldn't wait to finish the game, I normally do before I review games. Hope is just so awful a character. Right when you think he is done whining, he just does it some more. The gameplay is mixed, and the open area is locked behind 30 hours. A lot of questionable design decisions. This game is so painfully close to being half-decent, and that just makes it worse. So agonizingly close.
