I don't review much, but I have to give a positive to offset the idiots who give negative reviews when they don't know what they are even talking about.

If you haven't played the tutorials: STFU about game mechanics or knowing how to play.

If you don't like the game because it's not the same system as tabletop: Give it a chance please. I felt the same way once. Now though, after knowing what i'm doing, I see the game is actually much better than TT, enough so that I don't know if i'll ever be going back. (This of course is ignoring the hobby aspect of it.)

If you think the random number generator is biased: Idk, just grow up. Actually on second thought, i'm a Nigerian prince who needs your bank account information to give you lots of money. The loomynarti is real too.

Before you say PVP is dead: That is because most pvp is either between friends, or you have to join a tournament or league. Or maybe people have to man up and fight each other, despite the consequences.

What is Mordheim: It is a hardcore fantasy skirmish game, from the old Warhammer setting, set in the city of Mordheim, where you control a warband of 3-10 people vs other warbands (though you can have up to 10 people in reserve too). Injuries happen and are permanent, life is tragic for most warband members. But offsetting that are those that survive and prosper, eventually becoming rightly feared heroes. You equip your warband how you want and choose their upgrades as they advance. You must manage the warband financially, which basically means leading them into the ruined city to find precious wyrdstone (magical fragments of a great comet), which is worth a fortune to alchemists, magic users and those who desire power.

This game is not perfect, but it's still one of the best games I ever played. As someone who spent their life working with TT and RP games, I can't say anything about this game's system other than it is genius. Anything I want to comment on about the game that could use work I won't say, because the developers have not ignored the game and are still improving it.

Buy this game, and all the DLC, even if you won't play it, even if you don't like it. This is an overlooked masterpiece of a game, and it's rare to find a creator that deserves to be rewarded this much for their work. I think if you learn the game though, and give it a chance, then you will love it.

lol so many people picking this review apart. While the RNG is highly biased on the NPC side, it really doesn't make it bad at all, especially later on when your guys are all rank 7+ and shit starts feeling too easy. I mean yea it can be frustrating when you see a 90% chance to hit and you miss 5 times in a row, but it's still one of the best turn based tactical games I've played. Not as good as X-Com, but a very close second. Of course there's going to be people who feel differently, it is the internet after all, but still very very good game.

About Mordheim, it's actually not even hard. Most people have over 90% win rate, often 100% (vs AI). It's "hardcore", meaning no saving, basically. Anyone who played tabletop should know Mordheim is a rough and deadly place, and would be smart to assume this game will be similar. It isn't necessarily known that the game is like this (for new people), but i'd assume that if buying a game was such a big decision, they would do some research. idk.

And the people I said were idiots were "people who rate the game negatively when they don't know what they're talking about".

People can't just say RNG is rigged with no proof. That's like saying this shirt protects me from tigers, because there are no tigers here. From my experience it's definitely not rigged, because i've been abnormally lucky with 2 of my warbands. I doubt it rolls better because I have all DLC.

Just because this game shows you the rolls is probably the only reason people complain about it. Every game has a randomizer of sorts, though actually alot use a number seed often, so it's actually not even random. Regardless, I don't see how RNG can impact the game more than any other non-action game.

And sorry, forgot to add something about the RNG:

As I've said before, there are people out there who do not like that the RNG has such a big impact on the gameplay and on the success of missions. So it's not necessarely that the RNG is rigged, but perhaps the RNG takes too much away from player control. I can't say whether that's true or not for this, as I've only played an early build of it.

Here's the problem: You're assuming your tastes align with other people's taste. Not everyone likes a hard game, not everyone likes RNG to determine your success or failure, and just like you, not everyone has the money to toss around for dev support. So, for many people, they need a game they know they will like.

And that's very presumptious of you to assume that those particular people who gave negative reviews are idiots or don't know what they're talking about. What makes you better than them? Because you have a 3 digit long playtime? That is ludicrous.

About the RNG, I am skeptical about it. Like I've said, I have seen games with RNG that gives the advantage to one side or the other, so it is not farfetched that the same could happen here. You said it yourself, the game is hard, who's to say that the RNG being tilted isn't part of the difficulty?

(part 2)

Second example, the RNG. It's fucking random, that's it. There are infinite posts about it not being so, and most of those are people also whine about the following...

Third example, "this gaem is hard!". Well that's not a reason to crap on Mordheim, especially since you knew it was a hardcore game. If you must win at everything because of some self esteem or entitlement issues then god forbid you ever play a nintendo game or something else from way back when games were challenging and kids were still allowed to play dodgeball in school.

This is not a rant about either of you, Dragon or Cider Bizet. It's just frustrating to see something good get bad reviews for stupid reasons. Imagine if you were a developer of this. Especially when games that have the illusion of complexity but are total shit (i'm looking at you Civ 5) get mostly positive reviews. That is fanboyish, imo.

(dam the max character length...)

Don't be butthurt, it's sad.

Game developers need to be supported or else they fade away, it's fact. Plus I think this game is better than most. If I was rich i'd support tons of creators/artists, but i'm not. So buying some of what they create is the best I can do. I'm just asking people to support a group that has made something good.

I didn't say all people who negative review this are idiots, and even idiots are entitled to their opinion. The idiots are the ones that review before they know what they are talking about or are just blatantly wrong.

One example, "OMFG my caster took 9999 damage and died, this game is bs! I put too much effort into that guy to have him die to a random event...". Well, first, that's not a reason to give something a negative review. Second, that result in a game never has an injury or death roll, probably because that would be bs and the devs are smart. Yet I can't count how many times people have said they got injuries from it.
Dragon 30 Oct, 2016 @ 10:17pm
"idiots that give negative reviews", yeah cause people aren't entitled to an opinion are they...
"Buy this game, and all the DLC, even if you won't play it, even if you don't like it." LOL could your opinion be any more fanboyish and corrupt? Gee I wonder if you are associated with the devs if not a dev... lol to you my friend, lol. Go and shave your beard or something :)
Cider Bizet 30 Oct, 2016 @ 12:30pm
You say that, but biased RNGs have been made before, although for the player's side. That was in XCOM2, so much so that there are mods that put real RNG into the game.

So it is not unheard or unthinkable that a developer would put a biased RNG into the game. If you ask why, we only have our guesses, as we both are not part of the development team. But if I had to guess I'd say it would be against players to increase difficulty. Again, I don't know for sure and I'm sure you don't either, I could be wrong, but I wish you'd assessed the RNG better than a dismissal.

It's a random number generator. It generates numbers, randomly. There is no reason to assume it's not random. Psychologically people remember the fails more than the wins, I don't remember the term for it. I see the bigger picture, and I know for a fact some of my warbands have been very lucky, even with streaks of failure. That alone shows that it's not biased the way people think (against the player). Why would developers put in a biased generator?
