Early Access Review
To sum this up: I have played this game a long before it ever came out on steam. A way back when germans started with K98 bolt action rifle. I had big high hopes for this. I was disapointed.
Game has moved quite a bit in more casualish way, I'm not saying it's necessarily a bad thing - but for me personally I would prefer more realistic style of game.

Now this review more in depth... bear with me.

Game used to be a whole lot interesting back when germans started with bolt action rifle faced with american semi-automatic one. This created more diversity between factions making germans lurking from the distance and sniping rushing americans who would attempt to get into close range fights.

Red Orchestra + real-time strategy would make an excellent, if not perfect, game in my mind. That's how I imagined over an year or two ago when I first played the game. I imagined that they would add more factions as priority, russians and brits, to give an example. More factions would add more depth to the RTS side of game and also more interesting battles for FPS players where you wouldn't face always the same weapons.

Then I imagined they would make damage model more realistic. To make semi-automatic rifles as useful as they were back in the day. All bullethits should have an permanent effect on the character in my opinion. And to make movement and shooting more smooth - to make game more realistic and immersive, you should make movement feel like you are in control of the character.

I would also thought that they would make games much bigger, increasing the player count per match. Again, to make game feel more immersive and actionpacked. 64 player games would be great I thought. The sight of over 20 germans climbing from trench shouting furiously and charging towards you - epic.

They did not do any of this, instead the game nowadays is just like very simple RTS combined with worse version of battlefield 1942 to me. Remainder of very promising and interesting consept it once was. They also made content much harder to reach by playing for free- luckily I had all my snipers and tank drivers still available, which would nowadays require hundreds or thousands of hours of gaming to unlock. So I don't feel the passion of the developers in this, not when I did when I first played this. Instead I feel like they are developing this just for the audience / money. Not that there is nothing wrong with money. I might be wrong and this certainly is just an opinion.

I do understand that they listened to their players, being quiet all the time just happily and ignorantly awaiting for my dream game to complete. So they went with the loud majority band wagon. So I'm writing this review here, just to hope that a member of Reto-Moto happens to see this, goes to game designer and reminds him that there is also a group of players like me: who respect passion and innovation in games.

What can I say? I do know it's in development. But I greatly dislike the course of development, the route it's taking. Therefore I think giving this project thumps down is fairly reasonable. Thank you for reading this trough.
