Rocket League is a game where you can feel like an e-sport pro even if you are bad.

Matchmaking lets you play against groups (or single opponents) which are mostly very close to your skill level in ranked play, which is the way to play this game in my opinion. Ladder anxiety is very mild because there are so many different steps in ranking (bronze ranks 1-4 (with 5 subdivisions each that are hidden from other players), the same goes for the higher ranks)
Casual play is still fun though, since even when people leave you get either a bot replacement or a new player.
Fun levels like the basketball or hockey ones spice up the game even further.

Generally you play either alone, in pairs or in three player teams (with four-player teams available in casual play), so there is a competetive mode for everyone.
People can experience constant improval of their own skills even if they play at lower levels (as i do) and watching the crazy moves others pull off can be impressive even if you lose.
There is room for personal skill as well as team play, you just have to learn when to do what (but i feel that comes naturally ... or through pissed off team members shouting at you ;), but they'll also applaud you if you rock, so there's that)

The chat system is one of the most comfortable i've ever seen, with customizable hotkeys for pre-selected short messages (go from "OMG" to "Sorry" or "Nice shot") for when you want a quick comment, and keyboard input for longer messages, this system works for PC players as well as for console players with which there is the possibility of cross-play. Keyboard controls are almost as good as with controller by the way, so don't be afraid if you don't have one.

There are many more intricate details to this game, but those are the most important ones i could think of. So, buy it, even if you're not into football (soccer for you imperial system guys), it's inexpensive and a lot of fun.
