Excellent survival horror with an addicting game play loop. Deeply unsettling visuals, and the sound design is even better. Combat is a bit chunky, but isn't too bad once you get the timing down.
Technically there are no "jump" scares, but god help you if you stop paying attention to where you put your traps. The amount of times I scared myself by backing into my own beartrap...

Beat this one a few weeks ago and I'm still thinking about it. A cult classic for sure, and I'm excited about what this studio will come up with next.

To preface: If I could give this a "Maybe" I would.

Omori isn't for everyone. It's a game for players who are more story oriented and seeking a certain kind of experience. It's for people who like to chew on an RPG that they can zone out with. Omori plays like a JRPG, and it reminds me a lot of the SNES games I played as a kid.

The story in Omori is compelling, and I found myself drawn in by the strong intro-

And then, the game lost me.

Omori does not respect my time as a player. I found myself bored by the fetch quests, bored by the mundane puzzles, bored by the random encounters. I was told that things get stronger after the prologue, but I, just, couldn't. I have a limited amount of time in my day to play games, and I'd rather play something that is fun NOW and not fun eventually. I've picked up and put this game down three times now, and I just can't see myself getting through it.

I'm sure the story is great, but I'm not a kid playing SNES anymore, I'm an adult with a day job and not enough free time. I prefer snappier experiences with more skill based, engaging, game play. LISA: The Painful, for example.

This isn't to say that Omori is bad, because it's not. The story is compelling, the presentation is unique and interesting, and calling it 'bad' is unfair, because it's not true. Omori is a niche, cult, classic and as a cult classic it's going to appeal to a very specific player base.

If you enjoy JRPG style games with a slow boil, and don't mind random encounters, then you will be rewarded with a strong story about grief and depression.

If you're seeking a more engaging, skill based, experience- look elsewhere.

Delivered "life ruining game experience" as advertised. Ending of the game left me wrecked, in a good way.

Pros:

Very story rich game that has a great balance of serious content content and dark humor. This game literally made me laugh and cry, sometimes in the same session.

Weird, memorable experience with plenty of opportunities for multiple playthroughs. It's impossible to see everything the first time through.

Game is a good pace. About 7 - 10 hours long for the first playthrough, depending on how much you explore in the game.

Great, bizarre, music that really fits the theme and gameplay.

Cons:

This game was originally made in RPG maker, and that is made most obvious in the combat system. The combat is OK. It's not amazing, it's not horrible, it's just OK. The game primarily suffers from balance issues, and sometimes it felt like less of a matter of skill, and more about knowing when to spam certain moves to debilitate the enemy. There are also enemies that spring on you and can lock you in an insta-kill streak if you aren't careful.

The level layout can be confusing and cryptic. I found myself frequently getting lost during my first playthrough. I got used to the layout eventually, but I feel things could have been labled better.

This isn't really a con, but more a warning: The game features themes of sexual violence, parental abuse, and drug abuse. These themes are handled tastefully and make sense within the context of the story. This game is NOT for everyone (Nor should it be!)

I shot a man. I shot a man and he died.

Recommended to people who are too afraid to shoot another living human being IRL. People who aren't like ME.

Not as good as Daggerfall b/c I don't see any titties do you? You didn't have to get titties with a mod in Daggerfall it came PRE LOADED into the game, you wouldn't understand you aren't a 90's kid like me I know the score.
