Review Showcase
Deus Ex is a phenomenal game. It's super immersive role-playing action-paced interactive experience inspired by best works of cyberpunk genre, which contains a lot of deep thoughts about mankind, its past and its future, and brings player to the epic quest where he shall find the truth, stop conspiracies and even decide the future for humanity. I am a big fan of the series, however, I never played the original Deus Ex game myself, as I was too young to understand it back in the day when it came out. But I absolutely loved Human Revolution and Mankind Divided. I am very grateful to Eidos Montreal for making these two masterpieces, as without their hard work Deus Ex franchise probably would be eventually abandoned. However, when I am writing this review it can be said once again that the series are forgotten by their publisher. This reminds me of the situation with Blade Runner films. Because when Blade Runner 2049 was released, it received amazing recognition along critics but it didn't perform very well in terms of box office. So, obviously cyberpunk genre can be too deep for mainstream auditory but it achieved great popularity now due to different reasons. One of them is the fact that we are now experiencing the true cyberpunk in real life. So many things described in classic cyberpunk novels and movies have became a reality already with much more yet to come. Another reason obviously would be Cyberpunk 2077, which itself became a cultural phenomenon like, for example, The Witcher III Wild Hunt (But we did not expect any less from CPDR, right?). So, back to Human Revolution - it's a very unique project and one of the best immersive sim games ever developed. The protagonist, Adam Jensen, is voiced by amazing Elias Toufexis and I can't imagine anyone else voicing Adam Jesen, as basically Elias is Adam, and vice-versa. But the game has many other notable characters and it has very good script and amazing dialogues. There is also a big possibility to role-play not just in terms of choices in quests but also in the gameplay itself - you as player can complete the entire game without killing anyone except of bosses (well, these boss fights weren't done by Eidos, it was outsource work done by another studio. This is some weird choice of publisher and not the fault of Eidos). So, even that this game is more than 10 years old now (also crazy to think that it takes place in 2027 while this review itself is written in 2023), I still recommend it to anyone who is passionate to cyberpunk and can be into a deep story, good world-building and smart gameplay. The soundtrack is also absolutely epic - it was written and composed by super-talented Michael McCann. The main theme - Icarus Effect, gives me goosebumps each time I hear it up to this day. The game's artdirection shall be noted too. It's absolutely unique and can be described as cyberpunk renaissance. Also the game offers you a lot of possibilities to play it, as it can be either a stealth action or a shooter. So, I hope this review inspired you to actually try the game yourself. As for me, I do hope that third and final part of trilogy about Adam Jensen will be eventually released and also I consider my playtrough of Deus Ex series to be one of the best interactive experiences I ever had.
