This game is very reminiscent of Autoduel, for those old enough to recall that classic. As compared, there are far fewer weapons and vehicles, and the game ends more quickly unless you really make a point of playing it out.

For those unfamiliar with older games, this is a simple, top-down, 1-player shooter with a slow-it-down button (not quite bullet time, but close), which I never used after figuring out what it does, which is: lets you see what the AI does, and presumably learn to target with missiles.

Pros:
~Fast, easy to learn, simple controls
~Clear concept and good execution
~Fast-paced game with very little downtime; it's easy to go from one mission to the next very quickly
~Between missions repair time is point-and-click easy
~Achievements are pretty straightforward, mostly having to do with things you'll do in the game anyway
~Road salvage of defeated enemies!

Cons:
~No vehicle template/fast repair function; you have to repair/customize your vehicle after each fight to repair armor and buy ammo
~Slow reputation advancement if you fight only arenas

Each city you visit offers two or more things unique to that location, or limited to certain cities:
1.) An achievement for the first time you get there (no ingame effect)
2.) An ingame interaction unique to that location (custom shop, bar scene, border smuggling, etc)
3.) New weapons (a total of 8 or so, including guns and rear weapons/defenses)

The unique missions/sites are worth doing, as you might make some money or have a chance to get a car upgrade, but you might have something bad happen, too. I suggest having your car fully repaired/rearmed before accepting the border smuggling mission... In any case, it's worth it for the flavor. As for the custom shop, it's a place you can apparently visit with every new car you buy, and cars are fairly cheap, so if one gets a bad mod result you can choose to sell it and take another back again.

A full playthrough can probably be accomplished in... 4 hours or so, give or take, but there is some replay value in testing out different vehicles, learning different skills, and seeing the various mods available (I found 8 so far, I think, both positive and negative).

A fun little game, worth its $5 base price, and definitely a good buy on sale; I hope to see more from this developer along these same lines, hopefully with a bigger story and a little bit more detail and content.

I loved autoduel back in Jr. High and was wondering if they ever made a similar remake. I'll give it a try for that price
