Ah, zombies. We're all sick of them in games, aren't we?

Nation Red is a game with a simple premise. You're one of four classes each with their own perks and you have to fight off the zombie horde! That's basically what this game boils down to, it's almost exclusively a horde mode. Even the "Mission" mode is just fighting off a series of hordes except the match changes after you hit a certain amount of kills.

What makes Nation Red unique and rather fun is that it's very comparable to twin stick shooters/shmups. The zombies keep coming at you and your goal is to stay alive. Like most shmups, as you kill zombies there are weapon drops, perk drops, and you successively upgrade your character to help you defeat the horde of zombies. There are a couple of maps and modes and the game is excellent fun solo, but when you have four people on your fireteam, that's where the game shines.

This game is excellent for killing some time and the style (twin stick shooter) is a style I particularly enjoy. If you enjoy shmups, if you enjoy zombies, and if you enjoy testing yourself to reach a high score, Nation Red is an interesting twist on tried and true gameplay experiences. It's fast paced and has a couple of modes and maps to make you want to come back.

As a caveat, I cannot really suggest it at its full $9.99 pricepoint, but if it hits a sale/bundle and the style of game is up your alley, you may find Nation Red is just your ticket. I'd also suggest playing with a controller, because, well, its a twin stick shooter and you're far more lethal with a controller in this kind of game than you are with a mouse and keyboard.

Very interesting concept and execution. The game is as described in its blurb on its store page. You're a spacecraft racing the sun. The game mechanics are similar to the now classic Bit.Trip.Runner, however this has more of a "rogue" element. When you die, you go right back to the beginning of the "run", so even if you've cleared 3 stages, you go back to the start. I've not logged a lot of time into this game yet, but I am finding it quite enjoyable and is definitely something I see myself coming back to for short bursts. The graphics and music are minimalist, but pleasing to the eye and ears. It's already causing rage quits and if you're like me and enjoy torturing yourself with games like this, its definitely a worthwhile play. I can't suggest it at it's current $9.99 pricepoint, but if it appears in a bundle or goes on sale, its something you should consider if you enjoy these type of games. Another aspect that sets this apart is that the worlds are procedurally generated so the game changes all the time. Unlike the aforementioned Bit.Trip.Runner, memorization does not help you, you have to be quick and on your toes. I played with a 360 controller and found it to be the best way to control the ship.

Strider is an excellent side scrolling revamp/remake of a classic NES title from the late 1980s. You are a futuristic ninja battling against evildoers in a dystopian society.

This game is very comparable to other modern side-scrollers including the brilliant Mark of the Ninja and 360 Arcade exclusive, Shadow Complex. However, unlike Mark of the Ninja, the ninja in Strider does not rely on stealth. He relies on speed and using various abilities gained throughout the game.

Boasting excellent graphics and sound, Strider is a very smart and very fun game that I've been enjoying since I started playing. Like games of yore, Strider takes boss battles seriously and you will find a challenge early on in the game when you come across a boss. You must use strategy and learning their rhythm to defeat them. A few of the earliest bosses are relatively easy button bashers, but you will soon run into others that will give you fits.

This is a very strong effort and backed by Capcom, I hope to see more of these classic titles remade modern. I highly suggest a controller to enjoy this game to its fullest potential.

If I had any criticism of it, it would be that I wish the controls were a little tighter when evasion is important. However, that could be more down to my lack of precision than the game itself.

If you enjoy side-scrolling action games that remind you of the great games of yesterday or even if you're too young to remember and just enjoy an action challenge, Strider could be your ticket to fun. I'm 3 hours in and only 10% complete, so I'm hopeful that there's plenty more hours to come in this very fun game.

It's safe to say that this game will be one of my top candidates for game of the year.

Let me first say that I am a fan of this series. Sniper Elite V2 despite it's flaws is one of my favorite games of the last "generation". I love the idea of being a sniper and going behind enemy lines to kill ♥♥♥♥♥. The moment Sniper Elite 3 was announced I was immediately excited and I pre-ordered it the first day it was made available on Steam.

With that caveat out of the way, Sniper Elite 3 is essentially a beefed up V2 in a brand new setting. Like V2, you're not playing this game because of the story. This game is all about fun, sneaking around, and killing ♥♥♥♥♥ as effortlessly as possible. What makes Sniper Elite 3 superior to its predecessor is how it takes the mechanics I was first introduced to in V2 and ramps it up and improves the gameplay in almost every respect.

Let's start with the basic improvements. For me, there are two absolute standouts. The first that comes to mind is AI. While it's not perfect, it's much more fine tuned. It's now possible to kill in a variety of ways, from up close an personal melee kills, sneaking around with a silenced pistol, and of course the core of the game, sniping. In V2, once you took a shot the enemy was aware of your presence, where you were, and they don't let up until they're dead or you're dead. Now, relocating is imperative and allow to "reset" should you be discovered to go back to playing stealthily. I do think the AI could be further improved on even more, but I find that I have that gripe in a lot of games. In SE3, it's now possible to use sound to your advantage which presents itself in a variety of ways including a howitzer being fired, a faulty generator, and even the weather + there are others. A prompt at the top of the screen comes up when the sound is masking your shot. This allows the player to stealth large portions of, if not the entire level. The second massive improvement comes with the way you approach each mission. One of the biggest knocks on V2 is that it was very linear, and you were forced to play a certain way. Not anymore. The maps in SE3 are humongous and allow the player to approach a mission anyway they choose. Earlier today, I was on the 3rd mission and by the time I completed it, I realized I had spent well over 90 minutes exploring, trying to find the collectibles (still missed some) and killing ♥♥♥♥♥ on this one map alone. This improvement alone increases the re-playability of the game.

The improved and more detailed Kill Cam is also a welcome inclusion as nothing beats an enemies head exploding after a perfectly placed head shot.

Technically, I think the game is very tight. The Africa setting is rendered extremely well and the graphics are very strong. I also find that the sound design is good and it's nice to hear the German army actually speak German. I've encountered very minimal bugs which undoubtedly will be patched before long.

There are a variety of different game modes right out of the box including the return of Survival (a horde mode) which can be played solo or with a friend only for now (hope they allow randoms again like in V2), and the return of co-op modes like Overwatch, which allow one player to be the spotter and one player to be the sniper. There's also the addition of multiplayer modes including the requisite team deathmatch. I have yet to explore most of the other modes at the time of this review, and will return once I have gotten a feel for them. I did however spend an hour trying Solo Survival, and I know that will add to the replay value the further along that I go.

I feel that this game is exactly what a sequel should be. Change locations, improve the technical details of the game, and add some new, and very welcome elements that truly make it unique. I would love to see V2 patched with a lot of the SE3 additions, which is obviously a pipe dream, but the changes are so well done that it would be awesome to see.

All in all this is an excellent game that I'm excited to play even more. I know that I will still be playing Sniper Elite 3 for the foreseeable future and eagerly am anticipating what else is coming down the pipe that will add to the game even further.

8/10

I recommend this game hesitantly, and I say hesitantly b/c you should not pay much more than the current summer sale (Jun 2014) price ($0.99) .

Let's start with the obvious. This game is an unabashed knock-off of Trials, the much heralded game which is literally the exact same thing. You're a motorbike rider trying to get through an obstacle course where the handling and physics of the bike are the crux to passing them. I look at this game as a cover version of a popular song. Rarely are cover versions better than the original, but once in a while an artist will do very well and have a hit of their own on their hands. This is not a hit, but it's at the very least curiously listenable.

There is not a lot of customization in this game. There is basically one bike that you upgrade various parts of using money you collect on the various tracks.

What I liked:

- I liked the background effects of the tracks. The NPCs include cops, various passersby, and occasionally people will try to throw things at you. There's even some explosions.

- It was $0.99 and it drops cards.

- Relatively small (about 800 mb) download.

- Its challenging.

What I didn't like

- It lacks depth. The tracks are repeated at the higher levels in places.

- Occasionally the bike handling/physics is wonky.

- The braking and reverse mechanic has to be used sometimes to get awkwardly placed money bags and can totally kill your time/momentum.

You can do a lot worse than spending a buck on this game. It's an unapologetic knock-off of the brilliant Trials series (the latest game in that series is Trials: Fusion) and it succeeds in replicating the gameplay of that series to a point. However, at the end of the day, why play this when I can just play Trials? It does nothing that series does better.

That being said, it's a buck, and with four card drops, you basically can get this game for $0.40 if you choose to sell those drops, even less if you get a foil.

Don't expect anything great, but if you know what you're getting into, there's a bit of entertainment to be found with this game.

If you do find that you like this game, or at the at the very least how it plays, do yourself a favor and pick up one of the entries in the Trials series.

Some of the reviews for this game (the negative ones) surprise me. This is a really wonderful game and one of my favorites of the "last" generation.

It's a very simple premise. You are a sniper with the United States military and are tasked with going deep into the heart of Germany during WWII and sniping people. It's a very good looking game with robust sound and graphical effects with the kill cam being a highlight. It's from the third person perspective and I found the controls to be very responsive.

The game is not without its faults. A sniper is basically a stealth unit, killing people at long range. The fault with this game is that I find the AI's ability to locate you after one sniper shot (even if change positions) relatively easily. It can get "annoying" (for lack of a better word) and it seems that the entire German army (and some Russians) are also crack shots. While this is a hindrance occasionally, it never took away the fun of the game for me.

The story itself is not very deep, but you're not playing this game for the depth of its story. You're playing it to snipe ♥♥♥♥♥ from afar. I think of this game as a very good B-movie. Its not perfect, but you'll want to play it more often. Heck, even the DLC is fun!

This is a very interesting top down shooter in the veins of old school GTAs and Hotline Miami. It's a simple story, you play a guy who lives in an area overrun by monsters and you have to shoot your way out of it. The addition of control pad support is very helpful. It's a easy game to pick up and play and just have some mindless fun.

The graphics are strong for the style of game with lighting and a color fade to B/W when you're hurt standing out as cool effects.

All in all, this is a fun game that is worth giving a go to espc if you enjoy old school top down shooters.

This game is a helluva lot of fun. It's a decent 4-5 hour campaign. It's got the addition of harder levels and an arcade mode which adds to it even more. A very responsive FPS with a decent enough story and some very strong cel-shaded graphics. I really hope they make another or add some DLC. Its a really strong effort and at the price point (even if full price) is a good value. Highly recommended.

This game is really interesting. It's a very simple premise. You are working passport control for a communist-esque country. It starts out very simple, but as "days" progress, more and more details are required. If you let the wrong person in, there could be a terrorist attack and all sorts of things. It's also hard to manage your salary and you have to make some very tough decisions. I've put in just over an hour and its quite complex already.

This is a visually stunning and musically stunning game. It is an early candidate for my GOTY. Very atmospheric and challenging puzzle game. There's not much else that needs to be said. Must buy at full price and crazy to pass up during Summer Sale.
