Let me start by saying Chrono Trigger is a timeless RPG, one of the best out there. The story is captivating, the characters unique and interesting, the battle mechanics revolutionary for the time without sacrificing flexibility, the time travel aspect of the game is ingenuous and excelently executed, the graphics are stunning and the score is heavenly.

Of course not all is perfect with the game, it has its share of flaws; even more so in the new zones added in the DS version, the contrast between old and new level design is big.

All around Chrono Trigger is a must have for any RPG fans...

With this in mind I can't possibly recomend this port of the game. It's not broken as in unplayable, but there are features that definetively will let down even the most hardcore fans of the game. Not only the text looks awful, but in some cutscenes it doesn't even load correctly, giving you almost no time to read whatever the characters are saying, if you want to rename a character an awful windows text box screen appears, and there are some minor aspects of the game that are plain broken and unplayable, making it impossible to accomplish some minor, and optional, events.

If you're like me and want to experience this game regardless of the quality of the port, go ahead and buy it (or better, borrow it from a friend), but if you're not, then you'd better steer clear from this mess and wait until SE releases the port -- or remaster/remake we deserve.
