Skyrim + Anniversary Edition (Become the Dragonborn; adventure, shouting, and dragons await!)

If you're like me, you owned a copy of Skyrim on the Xbox 360 (PS3/4). It's only natural you'd get the Special Edition; see how Skyrim is a timeless adventure that is still as potent by today's standards. Bethesda has set the bar pretty high with every entry in the Elder Scrolls saga, but with Skyrim, that bar may never be reached again. From its massive open-ended world, hundreds of quests, complete character customization, and amazing story lines, you'll be pressed to ever go outside ever again.

Pro - With the Anniversary Edition, it adds a ton of upgrades, and the Creation Club adds a few free goodies that will keep you locked in for days.

Con - The only issues I have are the dragons; in the beginning, they are not really that bad. But later they start hounding you at every turn. I know you're a dragon slayer, but it gets old really fast.

Verdict - Honestly you should already have this game; it's Skyrim! Go Fus Ro Dah some dragons in the face.

PS - I have hours in this game I have no idea why they are showing ZERO?!

Hell Let Loose (War is Hell and so is this game... Marvelous!)

With so many World War II games to engross yourself with, I find Hell Let Loose the most authentic in terms of scope. The experience of being in the middle of a heart-pounding war that invades your senses can be characterized by slow and deliberate movement, squad-based teamwork, and the feeling of being pushed to the limit. There are times when you really do feel like you are there; it's almost intoxicating, to say the least.

I don't say this often, but having a working mic and being able to communicate effectively is a must (some servers will ban you if you don't speak their language!). The squad-based combat, if anything, requires all but the strongest of leaders and squad mates to win. Having a seasoned squad leader can have a significant impact on your experience of the match, so if you don't work well with others, this may not be your game. Maps are big with lots of cover; there are no death cams, so being a good communicator will save lives and frustration.

Pro - Squad based combat with teamwork and hardcore action will have you glued to your seat for hours. Artillery and tanks add to the warlike atmosphere of the game, with big maps with nice scenic vistas and plenty of places to hide and dig in. War is Hell!

Con - Some people don't use their mic, plus people will sometimes lone wolf in this game; it's a team game! Don't be that guy! There is a bit of a learning curve, and you'll die… a lot. People don't like being squad leaders due to all the communication you have to put up with.

Verdict - You can't go wrong with Hell Let Loose; the developers update almost all the time, and it's a great game with a few friends; even some randos can make it fun. All the DLC are cosmetic, and some are free!

Pro Tip - If you are green to the screen (aka - Noobs), I highly recommend you watch some “beginners guides” on YouTube. Make sure your mic is set up, and for god’s sake, don't be a squad leader or commander under level 50, please and thank!

Choo-Choo Charles (Demon Train looking for a mini adventure, don't forget the pickles!)

Choo-Choo Charles is an odd duck in the vast gaming library we all have, a short but sweet trip into madness for just a few hours. You play a monster hunter that is tasked with bringing down Choo-Choo Charles the demon-like train. Now Charles is no pushover Choo-Choo here, he'll hunt you down like the dog you are, just listen... you'll hear him coming.

You have your train to deal with Charles, with side quests and missions that are carefully dotted all over the island. But you only have one weapon, and funny enough! It's on your train, so leaving the safety of your Choo-Choo can be a labor-intensive endeavor. Just listen, you'll hear Charles coming.

Pro - A Fun but short romp with Charles the demon spawn train is something like the matrix, you'll have to see it for yourself. Oh and their even hardcore mode for those who can't get enough of Charles!

Con - you can beat the game in a few hours, achievements in all.

Verdict - If you want a short but crazed time with Charles and I know you do, pick it up.

Final Fantasy (A fantasy game that, to this day, is anything but final)

For the most re-released game of all time, Final Fantasy comes to us with a pixelated version of its classic adventure. Although it's the most subpar by far, it still manages to capture the essence that Hironobu Sakaguchi set out to capture when he was tasked with saving his fledgling company. His swan song continues to echo throughout this entry thanks to a fresh coat of pixelated majesty, a revamped musical score, and some achievements with an intriguing bestiary followed by some original artwork.

The original remains the most challenging to endure in all its 8-bit glory, bugs and all. I'm sure Dawn of Souls would look down on this version for its lack of end-game content, but this game does what it needs to do. There are some minor hiccups within this game's core design, but nothing game-breaking.

Pro – Auto Battle from Dawn of Soul makes a comeback, along with the best remaster music by far.

Con – The leveling in some areas is wonky, the Ice Cave has the most bizarre music ever, and for the second time, I am going to lament the lack of achievements, or at least ones that make the game repayable.

Verdict – There is so much to enjoy from this version, if not just to have. But for those craving a “real” challenge, get yourself the original 8-bit monster and relive the glory days of ineffective attacks and the horror of the ice cave. Don't say I didn't warn you.

Subnautica (Dark, Wet, and Scary... sounds like an adventure!)

Stranded on an alien water planet with little direction or guide may off-put many players to this master class of survival and base building. But once you get the hang of its basics, you'll be calling this seemingly beautiful planet your home. Diving deeper, foraging for ubiquitous resources, uncovering ancient alien technology, and piecing together clues to what the hell happened here is just par for the course. Just remember, you are not alone... or are you.

Pro - With 95% of the game taking place in water, the deep blue has never seemed so serene and quiet yet dark and terrifying all at the same time. Base building is fun and unique with lots of possibilities. Getting that last resource for an upgrade or vehicle is almost orgasmic, to say the least.

Con - Some creatures are a pain to deal with, and you're going to get lost from time to time is going to happen, and you can't avoid it. When you first start the game it is very "touch and go" till you build your first base, this may off put some new players. I don't think I've ever put this down as a con for any game, but it's lacking a lot of achievements. Not even fun ones, bummer!

Verdict - Pick up this game if you are not scared of the deep sea. You may want to pack a lunch... seafood anyone?

TitanFall 2 (Mechanized Fun Who is in need of a 3rd installment)

Fast-paced action, huge titans that drop from the sky, a full campaign—it's pretty emotional to the core. Wait, what... It came out when? Oct. 28, 2016? Where has the game been hiding? I feel like 95% of us Steam users just got reintroduced to this "hidden gem" of a game. Thanks to a mystical partnership between Steam and EA (and I use "mystical" very lightly here when talking about EA, see how they are a huge dumpster fire of a company), we now get to play one of the best FPS you have ever heard of. The Best part is that it's like $10 right now, or at least it was. Play the Campaign, cry at the end, log onto MP, and drop some Titans on your enemies. Titanfall is coming! *Crush* ^_______^

Pro — Fast combat, cool powers that don't feel OP or lame. Titans! The campaign is a roller coaster of endless emotion, and MP is lots of fun.

Con — MP can be challenging for noobs, some titans are better than others, just like some maps.

Verdict — Get this game now that the summer sale just drops, or wait for it to go on sale again! Thank me later, or thank me now! Your call, Plot! :D

PS - BT will forever be in our hearts. ;_;

Civilization 6 (Conquer your friends, enemies, and loved ones!)

Taking what was so great about Civilization 5 and adding a host of new graphics, game mechanics, units, and weather (DLC needed), Civilization 6 not only sets the bar pretty high but makes sure that you are locked in for another night of "Just one more turn, just one more turn." Leaders have a fresh new look, Wonders are just as powerful as they ever were, and winning can be just as risky as ever before. Newer units, resources, and other goodies cramped into this game make for a thrilling new chapter in the Civilization series. They have also started adding newer leaders, some are even different versions of the ones you know and love.

Pro – Beautiful new look, some of the DLC makes the game even crazier than before. Some of the newer units are a lot of fun to play with. The new golden and dark ages mechanics are fun to get you out of turtling and give you a reason to push harder. Different game modes add hours of replayable content, or you can make your own rules!

Con – Newer computers may struggle (graphics heavy), AI is still as goofy as ever but not as bad as Civilization 5, and the end game can be a bit of a drag sometimes. Some leaders are nice and easy to deal with, and others are just, well, asshats! (Finding out which ones is the fun part)

Verdict – This turn-based strategy is at its best, and the DLC is a nice add-on, though I would pick it up when it goes on sale. If you loved Civilization 5, there is no reason you shouldn't have Civilization 6.

Two Point Hospital (Bullfrog's best game ever, reborn... Anew)

Two Point Hospital is basically "Theme Hospital" reborn, along with all the goofy lovable, and gross monuments that made the theme hospital such a hit. You start with a simple hospital, working on some wired conditions and curing them. But Two Point goes a bit farther by letting you revisit your hospital to improve and get those other stars you missed. With the superbug add-on and a few DLCs, I have yet to touch, this game offers a lot for those who missed Bullfrog's signature game.

Pro - Fun, light-hearted, and sometimes bizarre. It will keep you busy and entertained for hours. New modes and goofy adds-on keep this gaming going even further.

Con - Can sometimes get a bit repetitive.

Verdict - If you're a fan of Theme Hosptial like I was, then you should already have this game!

Everspace (Rouge Space Shooter with some bite!)

A hidden gem on Steam that just gets better each time you play it. Fill with beautiful space-like vistas and dogfights galore, this rouge-like space shooter should scratch that space-fairing itch you've always known you had. Just like some of the more popular "rouge-like" games like The Binding of Isaac or Dead Cell, you start each game like the ladder. Start with next to nothing, and you kill, loot, and jump to each new area till you die. The money you earn when you cease to exist is used to buy bonuses to make your life a little easier, from weapon upgrades to finding your last ship with loot from the previous run.

Pro - Flying Aces will love this game, as will anyone who enjoys Rouge-like games. Each area is randomized for maximum replayability, and the scenery is somewhat breathtaking.

Con - Like any rouge-like game, you'll get tired of dying, and you'll die a lot. The banter between the pilot and the ship's computer gets old fast, and they only say a handful of lines you'll hear all the time. Dogfighting can be disorienting, and you'll get ganged up on a lot in later areas.

Verdict - I enjoy this game hands-down as one of the best rogue-like games on here.

PS - *Pro Tip* The default music is kinda meh, I find putting on some "movie soundtracks" really adds something special to the experience. Try it, thank me later.

Tharsis (No one can hear you roll 1's in space!)

Most people would say, this game is an RNG simulator and oddly they are not wrong. You are at the mercy of the dice and if you love rolling 1's like I do. I'll most likely lose! But I think that is the main attraction to this game on any level, watching as you make harder and harder choices. People die, and more and more hazards start happening. There is a bit of strategy involved, like eating your fellow crew members... tasty!

When you start a game, you lose one of your crew members right off the bat, then things (randomly) start going to ♥♥♥♥ on your ship. Your job is to use what crew you have, and fix those problems by rolling the dice. The only thing I feel is so incredibly broken is the "void" rolls. Each "problem" comes with random sets of numbers you can't roll, some are injured, and some lock your dice... But the void one is the worst. If you roll any of the void numbers, you lose those dice.

I had one problem where I couldn't roll a 1 or 2. And a 5... Plus 3 for injury.
That means I could only roll a 4 and 6, come on! The RNG Gods were not with me! ._.

Like I said before RNG simulator.

Pro - Challenging gameplay, cannibalism, Each crew member has their skill, and Each part of the ship has its benefit.

Con - You can't just give up, RNG simulator, void dice, some of the "problems" can be a bit heavy-handedly.

Verdict - If you are one of those people who doesn't mind losing 95% of the time, pick it up.
